Getting ready for Spring!
permalink

Yes, I realize this is very early to be getting all pumped up about the up-and-coming growing season, but last spring/summer was my first grow. However after months of caring for my beautiful's, they were stolen. My fault though, my spot wasn't exactly the best place for plants.

But I'm getting ready for the new season. Which is somewhat strange, taking into account I got our first snow of the season today. However, I'm already planning, mentally, and on paper! I can't screw this one up.

After losing my plants last year, I was hiking and found a perfect spot. It's a little clearing in the middle of the woods, which gets sunlight all day. It's a huge clearing, probably 100 yards square. Basically, it's a small medow in the middle of the woods with plenty of shrub and plant growth to hide the marijuana plants. Only downside is that there is no close water supply, but I figure I can lug a couple gallons of water down there everyday in their early stages and just store it somewhere for later use.

Uhm, instead of growing in buckets this time, I'm thinking about digging a DEEP hole in the ground, break up the dirt and put it back so its real loose, and then fill the top 5" or so with potting soil and place the germinated seeds in that. This would make it much less visible, than say if they were sitting in bright red buckets. Would this be a good idea, or would buckets be better? The way I see it, in the ground, the the roots would have unlimited room to grow, and thats a good thing.

I figure chicken wire that's painted a medium-light green color should blend in with the surrounding plants well enough to not attract attention, and keep out smaller animals. Natural scents to drive off bigger animals.

I'll probabbly grow bagseed, but I'm thinking about ordering some Kali Mist, White Widow, and Skunk#1 as well. The way I figure it, I have about 50 holes in the ground, and germinate 50 seeds. Out of those 50, I figure 40 will grow into plants. Out of those 40, I figure I'd have 20 females from there.

Why so many? Well, I need to harvest by beginning of August. So I figure I probably wouldn't be able to harvest them all, and plus I'm generous so I'll be giving away a few plants worth of buds. I'm worried about my planned harvest time though. How can I force the plants to bud in time? I'm going to get an early start indoors when it gets warm during the day, bring them outside, and leave them in at night when it frosts, so they should be a good size by Aug. but how can I force them to bud in time? I can always come back from college and harvest them, but there'd be no way to care for them, water, nute whatever they need for a month or two until they're ready to bud naturally (I think thats about when they'd bud anyway). . .

Anyone else in here as pumped up as I am? Haha, I'm tempted to start growing indoors now. Too bad I can't afford lighting so I can grow year round. *sigh*

plant em in the ground not buckets as the roots will have as much room to grow as they want. youll have much bigger plants in the ground then you would in a bucket.

I share your enthusiasm. I'm getting ready for my first grow this year and I can't wait till the snows gone. I scouted my spot and I think i'll be growing swiss miss, ice, and kc 33 x masterkush all from nirvana... and for less than 50$

Hi all. Jack Thompson here. Just have to say that I love hearing all those stories. That's great. My first grow yielded about a pound and two of my 5 girls were fifteen feet by the end of 7 months. Full-on sativas which are curing nicely. Would love to put up a pic or maybe post one....anyone know why my Rules says I 'may not post attachments'?
Jack
p.s That hole you want to dig.....be sure to mix a lot of bird**** or bat**** in with the soil. Put in some mulch, too. Make sure that you have it good and deep so that you can place a bunch of gravel and rocks at the bottom of it before you put in the 'mixture'. Be sure to read how to keep them short.(non-chemical nutrients) You'll need 6 to 7 months to get them how you want them. Also, you'll need A LOT of water if you want to keep them good. At the end you'll need to give them TONS of water( no nutes ) in order to flush them out. If you plan on having twenty girls, you're gonna need a river or hose. Sounds like a good place but I'd suggest a drive to the mountains, if I were you. Just some advice.

Hello Duff -

I'm an outside grower and I think it's great you are making your plans. I'm not there yet but you got research to do.

Not sure why you would need gravel of any kind in the bottom of your planting hole. I plant directly into the groud following germination. Sometimes, I've germinated right in the spot the plant was going to mature in.

For me the most important thing is soil that is not compacted in any way and the right nutrients. Yes, dig up that plot, add some nutes and put that soil back in the hole. You don't want it too fluffy, you need good root to soil contact. It's a mistake to think that the soil will have all the nutes the plant needs.

Spend some time doing some research on this site regarding what nutes mj needs when growing.

As far as I know there is no way to hurry an outdoor plant. They just does do their thing. You can get an early start indoors but the plant will flower and mature in nature's own way.

I agree with Jack - water is important. If you don't have regular rain you're gonna be hauling a lot of water.

Welcome to m.com and good luck; everything you need to know is right here on this site.
Peace,
Outdoors

There really is no right way to grow, you have to resonate with a style and learn what you can,
tweak it to your own style and raise the bar each grow... OD '07
