The planting season is coming upon us and I'll have to prepare my plot soon, so I was wondering how I should do it. From looking at the Tell us your soil mix thread: http://www.hempcultivation.com/420/s...ad.php?t=63789 I've decided I'll probably use about 40 to 50% perlite, but I'm wondering how much of the ground soil I should use. The soil is very clayish and doesn't drain, but I think it's fertile because a lot of grass and tall weeds grow in it. I would probably also use some sort of basic nuted soil.I was also thinking about putting lots of rocks under the mixed soil to allow it to drain easier and then putting perlite over them. What are everyone's opinions? -William H Holla | ||

Usually when I prepare a new place outdoors I remove all of the existing soil and replace it with my own but that just depends on how much stuff you want to haul to your plot. What I would do is dig a hole and get rid of all that came out of the hole. Find a good soil mix from that thread and put that in the hole. Myself, I like to dig the hole just big enough for at least a 5 gal. container (but you really need a little more) and about 6 in. deeper(for drainage). If you use buckets make sure you drill plenty of drainage holes. The containers for me help me water less just my ![]()

well the minimum would be as big as the root ball when your transplanting. if the rootball is small then the hole can be small, that is if your using the original drit. if not then you would just dig till you got the amount you of your own drit in there you wanted. ![]()

I myself would go at least 24 in. plus another 6 to 8 in. for rocks or sand or something else that would help with drainage and about 16 in. wide. but thats just my good luck
