On the verge of my first grow (help)..
permalink

Hi everyone!!! This season will be my first as a grower. I'm hoping I can get a little expert advice before I begin.

Unfortunately, because of my living situation I am NOT going to be able to start my seeds off indoors in little cups under a light (as all the grow guides instruct). Instead, I'm going to be planting them directly into the soil in my garden. Is this feasible?.. will my babies survive?

Here's my plan:
1. I'm going to start the first week in june
2. I'll be putting my seeds (10 total) in a cup of water
3. When they crack and the root tip emerges, I'm going to bring them straight out into my garden and plant them 1/4th of an inch deep in the soil.

What I need help with is:
First off, is this going to work at all?.. or do I absolutely HAVE to start them indoors and then transplant them outside once they get started? Second, if it IS okay to do it this way, then should I prepare the soil in any special way before planting?.. what kind of soil is best for germinating plants?

Thanks a bunch!! Like I said, I'm not planting them for about another week, so I have plenty of time to prepare my garden in any way necessary. Let me know what will give my babies the best chance!!

ps - I don't know if anyone else is curious as to how well seeds do when they're just planted directly outdoors.. but for the educational benefit of everyone I'll be posting pics when the progress begins (if there is any).

Fingers Xed!!!

I am in a similar situation (outdoors), currently i have one plant that is roughly 2 cm tall. I will tell you exactly what I did:

After finding my spot, I prepped the area by removing everything on the soil in a area roughly 4x4'. I took a shovel and mixed up the soil which was very fertile and black. This was my equivalent of "tilling" the soil. I had seven seeds and did no preparation on them, I simply placed them about half a foot apart and put them about half an inch under soil. As you may have read outdoor growing takes much longer, and to get to the stage i am at now (1 plant 2cm) took me two weeks. The only advice i have is to get started soon, make sure when youi plant the seeds to have the pointy part down (roots) and do not overwater. I cannot stress how you should get going soon and I will keep you updated on my lone ranger plant. Good Luck

dude use paper towels, wet them and put your seed in between them. put them in anything with a top( This grow I actually used the plastic box from a new cell phone) then put them some place dark(dresser drawer under a sink) check them daily but in a few you will see them begin to grow.Yuo could put the sprout's right in the groun but I would suggest that ya get some potting soil and put them in cups an dcover them. then put them in the ground. hop ethat will help a little. plus if you cover them in cups they don't need light till they come through.

The kind words are appreciated.

Still not sure whether I'm going to use a cup of water or the paper towel method to get my seeds to crack. Any reason I might want to try one over the other?? Hell.. I have ten seeds, maybe I'll do a little experiment and try 5 one way and 5 the other. Settle this debate once and for all.

Anyway, I'm taking your advice to heart racecardriver.. I'll be planting the seeds as soon as possible. Hopefully they'll be in the ground this weekend.

I'll keep ya posted. Good luck.

i read at some dutch seed selling company's website, i think i did a google search on 'marijuana seeds', anyway on that website there was a lot of info and stuff, but it says that the water in the cup method is better, but i don't know, try both ways and think for yourself

edit: be sure to use warm water when trying the water in cup method
