Can a Street Lamp Delay Flowering?
permalink

First I'd like to thank every body that replyed to my last post!

well In have a small crop outside, they are two or three months along.
My question is will a street lamp delay the flowering stage?

the lamp post is about ten yards away, the lamp on a 20 or 30 foot pole.
the lamp is a 400W HPS and the damn thing stays on all night!

do any of you pros out there know if this might delay flowering or cause any othe problems for my MJ crop?

I'll post some pics today or tommorrow

I know open flames like a campfire or somthing dosen't have enough "light power" (i dunno whatelse you'd call it) to do anything, but a street lamp 10yrds away might cause you some trouble ie: stressing the plant. Someone with a wee bit more knowledge should be around soon enough to enlighten you....

Mmm... Just to be safe I'd put up something dark to use as a curtain over night when you're having your dark period for the plants. I'm not certain the street light would have an effect, but better safe than sorry. You don't wanna stress yer babies. Let us know what you decide to do. Good luck!

Using the given information you can find out how far away the plants are by finding the hypotenuse which is roughly 42.5 feet given that the light pole is 30 feet from the plants and 30 feet high off the ground. From my understanding a 400 watt hps light 42.5 feet from the plants isn't going to affect them. I'm asuming that the light also has a reflector that directs the light downward, if this is true that is even less lumens that are reaching your plants. If I were you I wouldn't worry too much.

From what I remember off the top of my head (it's probably totally wrong), it should be light output at 1' (which is the standard lumen figure) * x ^ -3 which for a 50000 lumen lamp would be less than a lumen at that distance. (it comes out around ~.65)

...Anyone?
