permalink

i have an outdoor beauty that is planted in good ol mother earth an i have been feeding her since 2 weeks into the flowering. fert im using is called Shultz 15 30 15 and she is blooming great. most likely have about 4 to 5 weeks left. since this is my first grow that was successfull to this point im heading deep into uncharted territory. when should i stop feeding this beast or should i even stop at all. i heard about adverse affects to the taste and smoothness of the smoke. any help would be great.

High, Sparks.
Many indoor growers will flush their plants 2 weeks before harvest and stop feeding then. Since outdoors isn't in a bucket and watering more erratic, it could probably go to either side of that amount of time. 2 weeks should be about right though.

Once your plant nears harvest, the lower fan leaves will become yellow, and this will progress up the plant- don't worry about it; this is normal- the buds are taking up nutrients from the leaves.

Having fertilizers in dried/cured bud will make it harsh, and is probably quite unhealthy.

Hey Sparks -
I'm an outside grower, organic.
I'd stop ferts and any other sprays at least a week before you expect to harvest.
I would also "flush" the plant at the same time you decide to stop the ferts, as well.... To me, outdoors, this means watering with plain water for an extended period of time. I have a drip system. When I want to "flush" I water for 3 hours instead of 1hour.
My system delivers 1 gal/hour from each emitter.
I hope this helps.
To get away from harshness, that's a drying and curing issue. I'm smoking from last years grow. Stuff that has been cured and stored all this time. It's so smooth and sweet now... Read the grow guide on Harvest and Drying... Timing and style can be everything.
Peace-
Outdoors

There really is no right way to grow, you have to resonate with a style and learn what you can,
tweak it to your own style and raise the bar each grow... OD '07
