My freind has a house in Vermont in the country and he goes there every once in a while and it is very rural. I was wondering if we could plant some seeds and water them while we are there and then leave to let them grow on there own. We might not go back for 3 or more months. Would this work and would the plants survive?

Your risks: Dehydration, esp. in summer Bugs Diseases Lack of Fertilizer Animals Poachers Etc If you planted somewhere irrigated, like the edge of a golf course or something, at least it would take care of that item.

![]() ![]() | I agree with grasshopper, you would definatly need a irrigation system so the plants would be able to get water. The lack of fertilizer would be a problem though, you could try and maybe add some slow release fertilizer to the soil to get the plants through a few months. How many plants did you want to grow, i'm not saying go out and do a huge grow but having 5 plants out there, the percentage of survival would still be low. Moneymark's idea is good too, that's the approach i'm taking, starting them under lights in cups, then transplanting them into the ground a few weeks later. I never did a outdoor grow, this year will be my first but from what i hear from other people on this site, you have animals that might or will eat some of your plants, some could turn out to be males etc. You also want to make sure the plants get some good sunlight, might have to make a clearing, i know that's what i have to do in my situation to get more direct sunlight. If you have a irrigation system-water from a nearby stream or something that you can direct to go to your plants i'd say try it out. You could just try it out anyway and see if any plants survive on their own if you want, either way goodluck with the grow.

MOney and King are right about the cups, or even using the 10 slot germinating pots are good too, (same idea). i used this method two summers in a row and it works well, transplanting shouldn't be that hard either. but if the plants are going to be in teh ground, does he really have to be overly conserned about fert. i mean the ground has nutirents in it's self, he's just not going to get the fullest out of his plants right. they'll survive with no outside source of fert wont they? blazzinbeatz
