Question No Clue, Yet still outdoor growing
permalink

Hello all, I have just about no clue as of how to properly grow Marijuana plants, I live in the city and I smoke roughly an ounce a week.

Since I live in the city and I am doing outdoor growing it is a very difficult task... I can't let my plants get too big at all...

Seeds are random from in-town grass, I must state I am not trying nor expecting great plants, Just a bit more to toke as with my living conditions I can't take growing seriously.

I currently have 16 plants growing at what seems to be a decent rate. I do not know how to describe the growth however, I will try.

I will explain the method im using to describe the growth. I will describe it in 'Leaf Sets' by Leaf Set I mean this... First sprout, 2 abnormal Leaves, then 2 more Marijuana Distinct Leaves, I see they grow in couples, 2 leaves grow out then another 2 begin to start developing and grow out.

My best plant is on its 5th Leaf Set and stands 8inches high. There is no bud on it. I want to pull every plant once it has just about a half ounce on it.

1)Will I be able to pull this amount of weed before this plant gets very noticable?

2) When can I expect buds to start forming?

I will go out and buy a camera to put pictures up if needed, I read the guide along with about 4 others online. I still can't totally understand the actual budding process or how to remove the actual THC containing element in it because based on the pictures I've seen on pages like this, the weed looks like nothing I've ever smoked and I have been smoking marijuana HEAVILY for about 3 years now. Just not the good eh?

I'm lost here and other forums have kind of shut me down and refused to offer me help because of several factors... Random seeds, Not knowing how to actually grow and not going overboard with it.

I really need help, It may not be the best way to grow to shred them down at their early stages but I don't have much more options.

Are you growing in the city? If so i hope youre not growing on your property and its a safe spot. 16 plants will start to stink up pretty bad way before theyre ready to harvest. Those plants will flower when the light cycle is 12/12. When the plants flowering it will take usually around at least 2 months to properly finish. The bud you see on pics in here are different looking because they arent dried and cured.

Not growing on my property, growing in a very safe spot, It's just that in the city, You can never have a safe spot, people go everywhere...

I don't necessarily want 16 plants Just want to smoke some homegrown for the first time, I was thinking about giving the 14 plants that showed the worst growth to friends, just wanted to pick the best performers out of a bunch so that I would have bit more of a chance to succeed.

Light cycle 12/12? Sorry, Unsure of what that means.

Is there any average time between sprout and having a couple joints to toke? I mean I fugured most of the best plants take 9-10months. I figured an easy 3 months and I would have at least a little bit to toke.

Honestly, I just want to smoke the dang things I don't want to grow a christmas tree =)

Welcome to HC , congratulations on deciding to grow your own
Your going to have to do a little independant research. Peruse the grow guide, then the Library, there's a link for both in my signature. These will enlighten you about many things that you're wondering about I'm sure.
:edit: your right, the link didn't work, it was the exact same url except bible has to be capitalized....
it works now.

I have and most of the guides I don't understand and the link to the grow guide on your sig, I just can't find the guide. Even when I click on Growing using their Marijuana Info, All that comes up is a link to an article about what a police chief says about weed and advertisements for salvia.

I know how to generally grow plants, I can keep them pest free/fungus free and all of the likes for however long it takes, however none of these guides gave me anyway to predict a time frame as to how long you have to grow a plant just to get a small cheap smoke out of it. It may just be my ignorance but my research has tended to lean me into these severe growing techniques when honestly all I'm trying to do is grow the plant to harvest immature and just get a cheap smoke.

I believe shaned was on the proper path I just dont understand the terminology it was placed in.

ADDED: Just would really like to know an average time to where you can get something on the plant to smoke, thats it. Is 3 months a good estimation? (still can't find a guide that tells ya around when the first bud would come in)

I ll try and clear up a few things. First off the time frame depends how long your days are. Marijuana will in most cases not start to bud until the hours of darkness are equal to or greater than the hours of light. ie12\12.

In most places you are likely to already haveing long nights and short days.
so if this is indeed the case then your plants will start to flower pretty soon.

Flowering\budding can take any where from 6-14 weeks to maturity. but you can expect to see buds of decent size around 30 days of flower. but they will be loose and weak in potency unless left to finish. then you can expect to see some high quality smoke.
this is just real basic and may not exactly fit your situation. but I hope it helps

I am no expert but basicaly your plants will bud nautraly when the days shorten. Round about autum when you should see signs.

If you look at new leaf groth at the top of the plant you will see the gaps between the previous set and the new ones decresing and also the leave size will get smaller.

The first sign of budding that actually looks some thing like bud is the pistels which look like tiny white hairs. If you see that you hopefully be getting some homegrown to smoke.

Thank you for the AWESOME responses! This forum was the best and I am very glad I came here. I see that I have alot of learning potential to fulfill here.

Question:

Currently the plants are outside as stated previously.

I've heard some thoughts about light having an effect on the bud process begining.

If I were to go out and grab a Coral Growing Light (was told basically same thing as hemp growth lights) bring it inside and control the lighting, would that increase the speed and quality of the bud overall?

If so, What is recommended? 10 hours lit, 14 hours dark? From my understanding possible foil surrounding with a fan blowing up the skirt and a light 4 inches overhead would work right?

Or with my inexperiance should I just leave them outside and let nature do my bidding?

BTW Thank you again for the great replies, you all are really helping me out big time here. =)

You could finish indoors if the lights strong enough. Whats the color spectrum of the light and how many watts/lumens does it put out?

It would be much easier though to let them finish outdoors and plan for a future grow indoors by studying up.

good luck
