| i was wondering if anyone knew(or had any prior experience) growing outdoors in north texas. i know that if i start now, the weather will be mild for a while, but come summer, it is gonna be hot as hell. can plants take the 105 degree days, or will that kill them. any help would be...well...helpful tj | ||

| which question are you asking: 1 - would temps > 100 be too hot to only water once a day? or 2 - would watering once a day be too much? The answer to 1 is, probably not, unless you've got VERY sandy soil. Even if that was a problem, you could ammend your soil w/ compost and such, and add a layer of mulch to keep moisture in the ground. The anwser to 2 is, probably not, unless you've got soil that holds water really well. The best way to judge if a plant needs (or could use) a watering is to poke down into the soil w/ your finger about an inch or two, and if it's damp down there, they probably don't need watering. | ||

| I am in No. Texas and I "had" 13 plants. I lost 5 so I'm down to 8. 5 of the 8 are outdoors and aren't doing so good. By that I mean really weak and slow growth even though I used decent soil and fertilizer. We had a good rain last night so I will check them later this week. On the other hand, the 3 that I have indoors are doing ok(one is really taking off). I just put them out when it is sunny and put them under lights the rest of the time. Are you surrounded by that hard-ass black soil? If so, you will need to break it up really good and add some perlite and fertilizer. I think that I didn't break it up enough and that is why my outdoor plants are suffering!(I only dug down about 6 or 8 inches) This is my "first rodeo" so I am sort of learning as I go. Good luck. | ||

| hey thc i guess i got the same rain that u did last night. i planted alot of my plants in a place where there is a little water runoff, so the soil stays fairly wet all of the time. also, the soil stays pretty soft so i am hoping that it wont hurt. but, if we get about 4 inches of rain, i can say goodbye to all of my plants. i am just hoping that it doesnt happen. tj | ||

![]() | Earlier I wrote up this big intricate thread about my situation, and now I just went through and did a search on cold and started reading about it, and I doubt I will be able to get my seeds to grow from what I read, but I still have what i wrote earlier saved, so instead of posting a new thread on it, I am just going to post it to this thread which has already been dead for 6 months. I am just now starting to read alot about growing and becoming interested in it, I have about 100 seeds that I just got from my last ounce of schwag, and I want to germinate them and then plant them. The only problem is that it is November 11th! Pretty late to start planting I think. Thats what my question is about. If I do try plant some things now, will they grow? I am not expecting huge plants or anything, just something to play around with untill I can really get some good plants started in the spring. Here is a list of statistics for my area that should help you determine a solution for my predicament
Thank you very much, I didnt want to waste every ones time with some simple question like "if i can grow or not in texas" I provided pretty good details on my situation, temperature, location, etc. If there is anything else that you need to help me come to a decision, just let me know. Remember, I am just trying to mess around with the plants for a little, I am not expecting to grow 9 foot tall marijuana trees right now or anything. ![]() | the area around the dfw to terrell is known as the black foot hills. because of its extreme alkaline clay. the soil, if u want to call it that is an unforgiving black clay, which allows for no drainage what so ever. this area is extremely prone to fungal diseases. not to mention that or temperature is ideal for mildews molds etc. when the days reach 105 and the nights are cool, spring time is a haven for disease. unless u extremely amended the soil i would highly discourage putting them in the ground. ive been a horticulturalist for 10 yrs but have only had 1 season, hands on experience with cannabis. this is only my opinion. if you live east towards LA once past tyler you enter another soil type which is a sandy loame. either way i would recommend containers. any results of your efforts, i would like know. ![]() | i have grown north of texas for several years and the soil is very dense clay pan and always have to add to the growing medium. planting in late november is a waste of time unless you are indoors.
