Will the PH affect the smoke?
permalink

Hey all you weed guru's i was wonderin if the PH level of the water i use while growing outside will affect how well the bud at the end smokes? the last 2 times ive grown outside the end reults were very VERY nice looking and they smelled just great but alas when it came time to smoke it it wouldnt stay lit no matter what i did and i know i flushed it for almost 4 weeks before it was done i know you only need to do it for 2 weeks but i just plain and simply ran out of fertz to give it so yeah the only water i have access to at the site is plain old city hose water i live in BC so im sure its gotta be a bit cleaner then say the water in a really large city so yeah enough rambling Thanks in advance for any advice!!

pH directly impacts the health of your plant. The health of your plant determines the overall quality of the harvested plant. The health of that harvested plant determines how much THC was produced. And on and on and on. I think you get the idea.

As can be seen in jamesgang grow journals, attention to detail is what determines the overall quality of the smoke. pH is one of those details.

Hello

squirrlemaster brings up some good points, how you dry and cure your smoke plays a large part in how your plants will smoke and taste later....... so how are you drying and curing?

as for proper pH........ well the proper pH determines the uptake up nute's while growing......... only by supplying all of the proper nute's at the proper time will your plants produce good smoke........

you state that at harvest time you plants looked and smelled good....... so if they showed no signs of nute deficiency or other problems then I think your problem may be in the way you dry and cure......which is just as important as how you grow them........

Well the way i dry them is just cut the main branches off the plant trim off the really big leaves then hang them upside down in a dark room with a fan blowing on them then after a few days like that i take them down cut off the nugs and trim all the leaves off them before putting them in my good ol brown paper bag and then letting them sit making sure to open the bag atleast once a day and mix the nugs around so they dont get moldy and then i usually do that until when you bend them they break but still at the end it just doesnt end up tasting or smoking like it should....if any of you out there have pictures or a video of the "proper" way to dry and cure so i get better results id love to hear them.

I do believe you should let them dry longer, until the stems snap easily. Then cure, it may just be that you did not let them dry long enough.

Another problem could be that you kept feeding them fertilizer up until harvest, this could cause a harsh smoke. A good thing to do is to stop fertilizing one or two weeks before harvest.

if by " bend them until they break" you mean a crisp snap of the stem then you have completed the drying proccess properly............ the only thing left to do now is the cureing part...........

.......... which is completed by placing them in a air tight container and leave there for at least 30 days.......

if you also do this then you are drying and curing properly and I don't think I can be of much help to ya for it sounds as if you are doing everything correctly then I bow to the high minds that be for help for I'm not sure where your problem lies...... good luck dude or dude'et which ever the case may be Sorry I could not be of more help to ya.....

Yes 30 days with out opening......this is the curing part.....most of us will just leave it in the curing state until opening for use.....another good reason to cure in small containers...this way when you open one for use the rest just keeps on curing.... I still have some jars from my first ever grow 2 years ago now and with ageing and curing it is better today than 2 years ago and it was pretty good then
zip lock bags are not air tight......

not all Tupperware is air tight, but if used with a strip of duct tape around the edge to aid in sealing...... this will work.......

the best choice will be a lockable/seal-able glass jar, ya know the kind with a rubber gasket and the lid locks down onto the gasket........

many prefer to cure in glass claiming better results, but with a large harvest this sometimes becomes impractable........... good luck
