Hours or Intensity triggers flowering?
permalink

Let's say you want to keep a mother plant in veg state. If you were to leave it outside year round but use a secondary light source to keep light on it for 15 hours per day, would it flower with the season?

What about if you are vegging a plant under 2x1000W MH bulbs and then move it to a very limited fluoro setup?

I'm curious if the change in light intensity may trigger flowering, not just the time cycle.

danke

I'm not sure what a floro set-up is unless you mean florescent lights ...

15 hours will not be enough to maintain a plant in veg mode, and I believe the constant moving would be even more reason for it to flower.

If indeed you meant fluorescent lights then yes, but you would want something comparable to the lights it's under now. Less hours will cause it to flower less light should be OK...I would wait for another answer or 2 on this though. There may be other members that have actually done something similar.

Assuming that your climate permits growing tender plants outside year round, that will work (although you might need a longer daylength, depending upon genetics). It doesn't even have to be continuous light, dark cycle interruption (short periods of light in the middle of the night) works as well.

With a vegetative daylength, it will not flower under the fluoros.

It's the photoperiod, not the intensity.
