Hello, fellow soil growers.  I put this thread together as a collection of how-to's gleaned from several grow journals I have maintained over the years. There's no particular order to the topics, they were arranged by posting date. If there are any questions I'll be happy to answer them. and a pinch, pinch there... and a couple of Tra La Las. So here we go. Here is the model that I will be using to demonstrate how I train. This is a Grape in a 3 gal. pot. She is fitted with running lights Red is on the Port side and Green is on the Starboard side. To you landlubbers that's Red on the Left and Green on the right. Note that the cut will be above the sprout that is growing away from the center of the plant. | ||

there's also a right. Same deal, the sprout grows away from center. | ||

That determines the height I want to work with. I also look at the internodes on the center cut so that the sprouts from the center will grow perpendicular to the left and right cuts. A later shot will explain better I think. | ||

I make my cuts about 1/8" above the node. | ||

what I am trying to achieve. By removing the center, I now have 4 branches that radiate in a pretty regular arrangement. These will grow and branch and form multiple colas. The cuts on left and right will continue to form a broader canopy and more colas. | ||
