Mary Jane What is Sativa and Salvia?

OK this one may need a botanist to answer. sativa and salvia refer to different types of plants. For instance, Salvia Farinacea is the name of Blue Sage and Medico Sativa and Nigella Sativa refer to types of Alfalfa grass and Nutmeg flowers respectively. But what do those terms actually mean? Do all sativa type plants have narrow leaves like the cannabis variety or something? it's not terribly important, I was just browsing through a specialty seed catalog and noticed those familiar terms.

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
The name sativus (masculine), sativum (neuter), or sativa (feminine) (from the Latin sativus meaning "sown" or "cultivated") is found in the binomial names of many domesticated plant species

From Dictionary.com, a definition of salvia.
Quote:
Any of various plants of the genus Salvia in the mint family, having opposite leaves, a two-lipped corolla, and two stamens.

I think sativa is a type of cannabis plant, which grows taller andhas narrower leaves.

Salvia, if you ask a gardener is a pretty common plant but ask younger college students, you get salvia divinorium, [Mod note: Per the Posting Guidelnes Discussion of the production of by-products from the above mentioned plants and/or methods of use of those by-products is prohibited] and is also legal... for now.

Above mentioned plant is WAY different from above mentioned semi-synthetic, and, I agree, much stronger. I find it as great a herb as MJ, and has the potential to be life changing.

[b]Salvia[b] is a type of sage plant, that when digested can cause effects similar to LSD or Shrooms. It doesn't last as long though, if smoked can last 15-30 mins and if ingested can have effects as long as 1 hour and 30 mins.
