Trimming late in flowering
permalink

I was thinking of trimming some lower growth on my plants. Its about two weeks from harvesting though, so Im wondering if I should bother.

Would their be any benefit in doing this late in flower, or is it too late? Not a big deal either way, but if it will increase the size of the top buds, I'll give it a try.

Totally out of control.

This grow i have LSTed to obsession, and been heavy with the pruning.

First prune a few weeks into flower to clear out dead stuff and little twigs with no hope of coming to anything.

Then again about 7 weeks into flower. [these times are only approximate lol]

Left with top buds and the best of the popcorn, less pests and stuff that starts in the older leaves, more light, air and energy to where i want it;

in the good buds,

I am then progressively harvesting, taking popcorn first and leaving tops on plant as long as possible. Stress seems to pump up the tops.

Smoke is getting stronger as i go along.

The trick is in the timing, so that you get some photosynthetic input from the smaller stuff to help fill plant out;

but get rid of it once it starts to get congested or get in road of good colas.

Pretty happy with the results so far; nice and neat, keeping ahead of mites and other bugs without sprays. If it has done its job, is in the road, has bugs or is pathetic; i got rid of it.

When i cut the popcorn i leave a little stub, these are reshooting in some strains.

here's some pics of what i took off , a few specimens lol nigel

was going out of 2 folders so label now i can see what i was doing. lol

pic 1 - prunings off a dud plant top, assorted popcorn bottom.

pic 2 - tasty treat; popcorn off the plant in the back ground, top right corner, pic 3. miss thin leaf.

pic 3 - miss crinle leaf, sativa hybrid, minus popcorn at 8 weeks.

pic 4 - her top going into the mesh

pic 5 - her cousin Georgia, still with some popcorn.

pic 6- her top.

pic 7 - Skunkoid. leaping out of her cage lol.

yes trimming those "not gonna be anything" buds will help those plants focus her energy on the buds left... thus causing them to grow more... even this late in flower... just don't go cray with it... ya know? If I understand this isn't the first time the plants have been trimmed... just asking if a final one would be benefical, right?

Yea, just wondering if its still beneficial to trim this late into flowering. I did do a bit of trimming on 3 of the 4 plants that are coming down in about 10 days. Maybe 6-8 lower bud sites.

I know some people won't trim at all, but Im not afraid
Thanks guys

I trim my lower buds right when I throw them into flowering mode. You should be able to see the small buds about to form after about a week into and just pinch them off. About 3 weeks into flower I also look to see what small buds are forming on the lower 1/3 of the plant. Pinch those off. Now after that I don't usually mess with them. It's too close to the end of flowering to stress them out a bunch. Those lower buds don't amount to crap and will take away potency to the other bigger, better buds. Try it a few times and you'll get the hang of it and see what will become of your plants.
