some strain at least..pistils die off, get brown, then new ones appear, usually 2-3 times before end.

pistils browning dont mean a thing.

I grew hashplant once and it did the same thing -- nowhere near ready, but turned orange as the early developed pistols matured. Some of the "reddest" bud I have ever seen.
