Pistils turning orange too soon?
permalink

I have 2 auto blueberrys that are about 48 days old.. The pistils are turning orange ( 50% ) but the buds havent swollen up hardly at all and are hardly any trichomes.. Is this normal? Every pic I see, the pistils dont turn colors untill the buds have swollen.Theres hardly any whiteness to the buds at all.. Its mostly all green and the mostly orange pistils..My buds look nothing like any ive seen in pics..Mine look thin, dark and dry.. My buds are about as big around as a cig lighter..Its weird. And they barely smell also. My pistils never got "fat" and "juicy" like I see in pics.. they stayed really thin and hairlike.. The "buds" have filled in solid ( meh ) but they are just so "un dank" looking. Also is it normal for the "buds" to only have 1 "layer" of "calax's" ( right word? ) ?

I don't know if this will help but...FWIW

My Big Buds turn orange about 45 days into flower. By the end, they are covered in orange hairs everywhere..where my Satori for example hardly shows orange at all so I'm just checking trichs at about 55 days until it's time to harvest. My only guess is it's genetic cause I know my environment is in check

whats puzzling me is this is how the strain looks in flower ( found this journal on the web ) >> CLICK HERE <<

But mine doesnt look at all like that.. My buds are way thinnner.. You can practically see through mine.. And there is not fat juicy light green part ( swollen calaxs? ) like that dude has in his pics.. I really wish I habd a cam so I could show you what I mean.. I really hope they swell up and get fatter and "juicier".. Right now there just scragly and thin looking.

with pistils turning orange, you should be at the point where they are about to get fat. It could just be the pheno? Could be more sativa dominant.

I would just hold out and see how it goes.

I know I would get upset when I compared my plants to others and mine just didn't look the same...remember 2 ppl grow completely different in every way. Don't sweat it cancer_patient1, I'm sure your girls are right where they should be

Really? The pistols commonly change BEFORE they swell up?I mean, theres a ton of pistils but the parts that the pistils are coming out of ( calax? ) are not swelling up any more and are barely big enough to make a "solid" bud.. Its hard for me to explain, excuse me.I see some trichomes . mostly on the "calaxs" .. I wish I had a scope , sigh

They are in the middle of thier 4th week of flowering and although the buds aren't full size yet, some of the pistils are turning brown already. Does this mean they are maturing at a faster rate or is there something else going on?

Thanks in advance for your help

Get some sort of a microscope or hand lens or jeweler's loupe so that you will be able to check the trichomes as they develop. The trichomes will give you a sure indication of ripeness. They will turn from clear to cloudy and finally to amber. You can harvest anytime you like but when the trichomes begin to turn cloudy is the beginning of the ripening process. Judging by pistil color is guesswork.

i dont look at pistils do determine anything. ever.

just about every strain ive ever grown went through different "pistil production" moments. first 2-3 weeks its all thier is. then things start to turn brown, red, orange...eventually brand new white pistils shoot out everywhere, then comes the coloring again. then more white...

if your buds dont seem dense, my first thought is too little light.
