Thanks for the reply CT....I asked him to at least humor me and stagger the harvests over two weeks to get at least a few plants into the 60 day range, but nope! anything longer than 46-48 days they will be shit!

I've been wondering FOREVER...well..since he's started seeking my advice about three harvests ago...why the heck the plants won't take over 500ppm without tip burning and having the ppm's start rising indicating overnuting...since I searched the BB/NL strain and people were saying they were well into 1000ppm from 3 weeks into flower till flush. I didn't know that you could burn a plant with N using the Lucas Formula! I thought since there is no Grow being used you actually would risk running an N deficiency. Maybe this phenotype is very N sensitive though? That would also explain the crazy idiotic stretching being described to me as a foot of 1/2" thick stem strait up on top where the big budsicle should be. I've never heard of anyone straying away from the Lucas ratio of 1:2 M-B before...what would you recommend? Maybe 1:3 M-B?

Since his pH keeps dropping but he doesn't have any known/visible bacterial/viral/root rot problems...I know that RO water is notorious for pH swings, and I also know that people add Cal-Mag anywhere from 100-200ppm starting before they put in anything else, to give the plant Mg which MJ plants love, and to replace the natural buffers lost to the RO filter (mainly Ca I think?). He didn't have a lot of CM+ so I advised him to mix at 50ppm starting solution..which he's been doing since day 1 now...maybe the 50ppm isnt enough to buffer. I will tell him to raise the CM+ to the more popular 150ppm I've been seeing people use, maybe this will take care of the pH drop issue. The only other thing I could think of is he uses 10ml/gal Aquashield which is a ben. bacteria to prevent root rot...maybe the bennies are going nuts and dropping the pH? Prooobably not and it's the first two probable causes, just an idea.

Another thing I read when looking for solutions was that some people found the pH would drop when they were severely UNDERnuting...which CT said might be the case, minus the N. I'm going to tell him to mix up a batch starting with 150ppm CM+, then bring it up to 800 using a 1:3 ratio M-B, pending CT's advise on a new ratio..650ppm of M-B should be a good low base level for plants around day 20 of flowering I'm thinking.....Hopefully this will take care of the pH and the low ppm problems.

Each plant has about 5 gallons of solution so I don't think its a crowded-rez problem that some people experience when they have pH swings with lots of plants in a small res...

CT, would a possible problem arise from using the 150ppm of CM+, since it contains N...and just make the problem worse while trying to make it better? Not sure how much N it actually has, I just know it has some, and might trample any efforts on the M-B ratio change....just a thought.

Thanks for the reply EMj...

Yes, from what I can gather over the phone, "the pH drops from 595 to 545 over 2 days, and I make it go back to 595" Yea, my bud refers to the pH readings as "Five Hundred Ninety Five), not 5.95...you can't teach someone that doesn't want to learn!! At least he knows what the meter should read, and how much adjustment fluid it takes to get it there, though. Looking at that data, the plants were probably below pH 5.7 for almost every other day of flowering! I believe effectively locking out Mg and P, both of which are needed badly to make FLOWERS..which might explain the crap .15g/w...also supports CT's hypothesis as this would lock out two major nutrients while leaving the excess of N available...correct?

Thanks a lot guys...I'm not one to just rapid fire questions without searching and researching first...so I have a lot of knowledge bumping around in my head...you guys are just adding the details thats making it all come together.

So...my instructions will go

1. Bring up the CM+ to 150ppm.

2. Add another 650ppm M-B at a modified (less N) ratio like 1:3..waiting for CT's input on this...

3. Hopefully this will stabilize pH..if not, keep it between 5.8-6.0 frequently adjusting, not every few days...

Lets see if this will get my phone to quiet down.

hydrolized, no offense but people like your friend are nearly impossible to teach anything to. If they have it in their head that they already know it all or their way is the ONLY way, their mind is closed to learning anything new. It can be very frustrating and i have found that I am better off not sharing what I have learned with some of my friends who are the same way. I just keep my mouth shut and watch them flounder around blaming everyone and everything else for their failure. If you say too much, they'll begin to blame you!

Best of luck with this. You've got some great advice from the others and it serves to teach all us sponges something new.

The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge. I love that saying.

I had a knucklehead friend who I showed my grow and he almost immediately starting trying to pluck leaves off telling me I had too many and it was gonna hurt my yield!

This guy has been growing outdoors for years and was adamant I had too many leaves.
WTF? I tried to explain but after a short time, I just stopped and let him blather on. He started taking that tone that some people use when talking to a newb.

Ain't that the truth man.

Mention growing to anyone and they'll have some advice for you, especially the 99% of folks who've never even seen an mj plant in real life
