Is flower growth linear?
permalink

I was wondering what the "timeline" of flower production is from start of 12/12 until 100% amber trichomes/flower production end. I have read a few times that plants start "packing on" the buds and trichomes in the last two weeks....is this true? Say you were to harvest a 60 day strain, at only 46 days (2 weeks early), would you miss this growth surge and experience significanly less yield/trichomes compared to a "full term" harvest? A friend is growing BBxNL and is only getting about .15 g/w off a 1000w light with 9 plants, DWC using Lucas formula...asked me why yield is so crappy and told me he is harvesting at 46 days while all trichomes are still either not capitated yet (just a ball on the leave, no stalk) or all the capitated ones are still clear...the breeder pack says it is a 60 day strain so I'm thinking he is missing this "growth surge" if it exists? If it doesn't, I guess it would chalked up to be a crappy phenotype?

Thanks for the help guys/girls

I asked the same question before, and it seems to depend on the strain, but yes, most are NOT linear. They all seem to bulk up at some point.

My Satoris are starting to get a little fat, at 30 days out of recommended 70 flower, but Burndt grew the same strain, and has assured me I ain't seen nothin yet.

Your buddy needs to slow the hell down and have patience. It'll bulk up if he lets it alone, I bet.
Plus its not even covered with trichs yet- leave it the full 60 and see what happens. High is going to be better, too.
Harvesting now is wasting potential. he still has a LOT of weight to go. Of course, now this plant may not have all the bud in the world- he already pick some, leaving less to bulk up.

Q-"Hey , how do I get fantastic yields of good homegrown MJ?"

A- " Patience, man, Patience."

Totally agreed, why harvest bud that wont be its full potential?? Let those trichomes fill up with some resin at least. Those two weeks hes missing could probably double his yield.

Also, underfeeding will hurt yield. Is your friend only givng them a minimal amount of nutes? 46 days? WTF?

Thanks for the replies guys.

Sso....Yea, I recommended the BBxNL to him because he wanted good yield.....He was/is a begginer and I don't live close enough nor do I want to be physically involved so I just help him as I can through phone/email....he is an "old timer" and doesn't like my scientific approach to things so when I told him to wait till at least 50 days, then start checking for cloudy/amber trichs, he said no, the plants just "looked right" at 46 and he "knew" that if he waited another day even, they would go too long and be crap. So much for that.

County...this is another thing that makes me think it's a crappy pheno....they only will take 575ppm of Flora using Lucas...anything over 575 they burn..according to him at least...I'm thinking since I've read BBxNL taking over 1000ppm, this pheno just sucks.

"looked right and any longer they're crap at 46 days"

Man, tell him to start a journal on here, or just post about it, and he'll see if he listens.
If it's you're first grow, listen, maybe they are right.

Sounds like the guy is Jonesing. Better help him out before he gets depressed in a few days when his 46 day old buds dry into shake. If they even get that chance.

If it says 60 then go 65 or 70 days If he doesn't want to wait that long or needs proof then he can cut one at 6 weeks one at 7 weeks and one at 8 weeks They're probably not taking the nutes because of too much N.. tell him that after 30 days to drop the micro down more and leave room for the Bloom
