Two different genetics from one plant?
permalink

The seeds from these two plants came from the same "bag". They have been grown the same way. Same soil, nutes, watering, climate, etc. etc. I was told they were picked off the same bud(s) that were in the bag.

Assuming that last bit is correct is it possible to get two plants that look so different from the same parent? One looks to be some purple variation while the other does not show any of those traits.

Being bag seed I guess they could just be a mute. Or it could be they came from two different plants that were just bagged together. I have just never seen a purple variation in a bag of Mexi.

Thoughts?

Thanks
DD

Different phenotypes can show up for sure. Most likely what you are seeing.

...and it may be my eyes but the one on the left (purple) looks like its completely seeded.

Breeding is a time consuming pain in the ass and the short answer is YES , the same plant can give different looks depending on the dominant genes, particularly in early crosses.

I'm sure a REAL breeder can delve a bit deeper into it than that lol

They look vaugley similar to me. The lighting on the pics is very different so it is hard to tell really.

Yes the plant on the left is VERY seedy. I waited too long to kill a male. Funny things is the male plant was in the middle of these two plants and the other one is not showing signs of seeds. Guess it must have been up wind.

I am kind of excited about the "purple" one being seeded. Will be interested to see what I get off of those seeds!

Yeah the Satori I got now has 4 phenos, 2 spear type, 1 bushy, and one midget type. Store bought and bred, but they still have 4 phenos.

I'll try bagseed when I get set up properly and have the plant numbers to play with different types, but if my F1 Satori has 4 types, I'd hate to see what random bagseed can come up with......

Although, I am saving seeds from a VERY seedy 1/2 I got for $25, just for giggles.
