Here's the deal...I currently got 3 OG Kush #18 and 1 LA Confidential going into flower. I'm not sure but I think that one may be a hermie outta the gate. After making sure, as I see it, I have three choices...

1) Yank it and cast it into the dustbin of what could have been. This is the immediate impulse.

2) Keep plucking male flowers off and hope that it gets it shit together and decides to become predominantly female.

3) Just let it all be. Let it spread it's pollen around, take it's best shot at immortality and take what comes. The uber-Luddite approach.

In the past, Number 1 would be my definite choice. What I'm not sure about (for people who have chosen 2 and/or 3 in the their grows, is whether a hermie will produce like a regular female or whether it will have a much lesser buddage than a straight female. I'll probably just go with one but wanted to get others' take, at this point I'm not sure what direction I want to head in. I know that there are loads of hermie posts but they are all scattered all over the place...feel free to use this thread as a full-out discussion of hermaphrodism in this wondrous plant species.

Death to hermies!

That thing will pollinate the rest of your grow and all the seeds will carry hermi tendencies.

Seeds not only cut down the smokeable bud but are a PITA!

Number 1 is my definite choice!

Gotcha. I had my first hermied plant last grow. Luckily I chopped it before it did too much damage...some buds on the other plants were lightly seeded, some not at all...but it just got me wondering whether yanking was the best way. I now realize I was not thinking clearly whatsoever. Thanks! I needed that!

Salutations,

I agree with the pull as your first choice and I agree with BC in that the hermy trait is carried along in the seedling but, there has been those few instances when that trait has missed a given seedling or maybe in my case five seedlings..
In a couple of flower sessions back three of my Lady clones (I don't grow hermy plants and none of my cloned Mothers have ever shown hermaphroditing tendencies) hermied due to a light leak between my flower area and grow area in the "early evolutions of a grow room" and I allowed the three (Trainwreck, KGB & an AK47) to mature there seed for a total of a 14 week flower.
I harvested the bud with seed, collected as many seeds as I could finding approx 50-75 beans in TW, approx. 10-20 beans in the kgb and even less (5-10) in AK. Having given away the beans from kgb & AK I kept the TW seeds as i've given away all my TW strains by accident (a stoner moment) and now no longer have access to that genetics without ordering seeds which of course won't be whatever my particular strain was.
Today, as I type this five (5) Trainwreck seedlings are in flower in there 3rd week and showing (knock-on-wood) 100% female.. Although I am keeping a very close eye on what these young Ladies are doing i'm confident at this point I am the proud daddy of 5 beautiful girls... I'll keep you all posted as to there progress as they go through there 8-12 week session exclusively under 48" 8-tube HO T5!

Have a Great day & Good luck

Congratulations on your girls Don!

From what I've read it seems that the hermie "trait" is genetic. That will be passed on to the kids. If the plant hermies because of stress then most likely all the seeds produced will be female.

So mayan in your case it seems like a gene so I recommend culling it.

I guess this is another reason to clone. Figure out which plants are hermies and snuff 'em with the males. Hopefully, this won't be a hermie and no one will get hurt.
