One thing i remember that might be the cause for your confusion: A male/female canabis plant might show flowers from the oposit sex. The use you have for a male is to pollinate female flowers so they'll produce seeds. If you don't allow females to be pollinated(?) all plant efford will go to bud pruduction, instead of wasting energies producing seeds, and that means... some leaves are good to smoke, but there's nothing like the real thing...
