hey, I know that there was already a question about 12/12 for young plants, but what about 12/12 for sprouts? i'm growing in soil in a four inch pot with a 20 watt grow light (i know i should get more, but im broke...and its only one plant anyway). my goal is to have the smallest plant possible at harvest time. i know this sounds strange, but i have height restrictions. anyway, i've kept my plant under 12/12 to 14/10 for about 3 or 4 weeks now and it seems to be doing just fine. if i keep the photoperiod the same, will it flower as soon as its ready? should i increase the dark period by an hour our two for even earlier flowering? i hope this won't hurt my plant at all. right now it is about 3 or 4 inches tall with its 4th set of leaves coming up. its an unknown strain, but judging by the width of the leaves (they're actually overlapping) i would assume it's very indica. i can see a bunch of tiny white dots on all of the leaves. is this normal for all cannabis plants, or is it from the short photoperiod? sorry about all the questions, but i hope you gurus have some answers for me

by the way, i've done plenty of studying on the subject of hemp cultivation (and when i say plenty i mean PLENTY), so please don't treat me like an ignorant beginner (even though this is my first post) thanks again!

No guru here but I'll answer your questions anyway

You really need to keep plants that are in a veg state on either 24/0 or 18/6 lighting schedule. There are not growing to there full potential with so little lighting.

If you keep the sprouts under 12/12 they are going to flower prematurely and not produce good smoke (meaning the THC level will be low) or much bud (small yeild) which IMHO would be wasting your time

If your goal is to have the a shortest plant possible look into SCROG. And it is not really so strange of a request many people have space restriction they need to work with. It is a great solution for cramped spaces. Check it out....

White dots .... hmmm ... mold / fungus maybe?

hey lilbuddie,
i'm not only growing only for the smoke, i'm also growing just for the hell of it. i don't really care about the potency or yeild, i mainly want to see if i can do it. and by the way, i also have restrictions on when i can have the plant under the light. i can only have it under for 10 to 16 hours.
size and yeild don't matter, but i would like to grow at least a little bud, even if i only get a buzz off of it. oh yeah, and about the white dots, it's definitely not a fungus or mold. it looks more like tiny little hairs or even mini resin glands (doubtful). ok, i'm really stoned right now, so i'm gonna leave.

yes u should keep uder 24/0 though veg.
u could top plant to keep small and bushy.

You'll be allright with a light cicle of 16/8, and you just might get a little more than a little bud, if you arange a bit more light...

thanks guys, i would get more light if i had enough money, but i dont. so far ive kept the lights as close to the plants as possible (less than an inch) and i do plan on topping it at some point. i was also wondering though, do you think it would work if i pruned and trained so that i only got buds on one side of the plant, not on the top or the other side? thats all for now, gotta go.

Huh? I don't understand what you are asking

If you pull the main stem over then the buds at the secondary site will get more light and both sides will start to grow upwards.

Did you look at any SCROG information?

ok, ill try again---if i topped the plant and didnt let it grow any taller, and also pruned one side of the plant and didnt let the branches grow out, would i be able to set up my light to shine on the existing branches so that buds would grow sideways, only from that side of the plant? (i think that makes more sense...) this all seems pointless, but i really dont have a lot of space. to be more specific, about 1'(width), by 2'(length), and 8"(height)....thats growing area (excluding the pot). it may not be possible to grow a plant in this kind of space, but its worth a shot. i hope this clears up any confusion. and lilbuddie, if i had enough room for SCROG i would definitely use it. i've seen pictures, looks like great results can come out of it. that's all for now.

Sounds like your growing in a suitcase and maybe trying to do it in a shealth mode ... from say maybe parents???

It's not even worth it so give it up and don't get caught.

yeah, i know it's dumb, but i've looked in my parents room and found drugs, so if they caught me i could just hold that against them. i was planning on transplanting outside this weekend anyway; i just wanted to see if it would be possible to do it in the space that i've got. you don't have to be cruel and just tell me to give up. i'm sorry that i don't have a huge growroom with a bunch of 1000 watt hps and mh lights. i'm just trying to have fun and experiment. ok? thanks anyway...
