A few of my strains Im veging have shown female flower characteristics even when under 20/7 lighting .. I didnt worry about this since its apparently normal ... but what I wondered is does this mean the plant is definately female? Ive got a stavia Im having trouble deciding whether to keep or not .. it started showing the female preflowers like above, and then a bit later started showing male preflowers .. great, kinda been humming and haaing about throwing it .. but took some clones anyway, pulled all the male flowers off and put the mother in to flower a while back. Now the clones are displaying the same behaviour but the mother is only producing female flowers .. there arent any male signs anywhere.... I read somewhere about the hermie/stress thing being a survival characteristic ... and wondered that since the vege room is 400w Sonagro HPS, about 12000 lumen per sq ft, and the flowering room is closer to 15000 would the stavia not be getting enough light in the vege closet and so be being stressed, but likes the higher light in the flowering closet and so reverts to its predominant gender ... I really want to try a stavia so Ive been perservering .. but dont want a strain thats going to pop pollen out whenever Im not paying enough attention ... any suggestions would be appreciated ... itd be great to have some detailed discussion about hermies and their characteristics and patterns .. thanks

I Would love a detailed conversation about hermies. I recieved a batch of hermie seeds and want to know how to detect this. Before I purchase another batch of seeds. Is it a stress thing? Did I do anything wrong? Im just a beginer, people around here said I could clone them and get females. Is this true? HELP! ![]()

![]() | Hey man, just did a search earlier on gibbrellic acid and found a whole heap of threads discussing hermies ... Ive posted on the more established and well discussed ones .. so if you do a search on my nick and check the more recent posts you should find them ... There is ongoing debate whether its the seeds that have the hermie trait, environmental (yeah you stressed em) or a combination of the two .. the uncertainty of this makes saying what will happen if you cross the female hermie with itself ... the jury seems to be out but suggests that if you did this over successive generations of the plant always choosing the plant that produced the least male flowers you could breed for a high percentage female hermie ...or feminised seed ... in theory at least .. there still seems to be lots of debate on this one ..
