finally i got my name to register!!! ok well lets get to the point. last night i did a little work to my grow box. it was past lights out for my plants but i had to leave them in my room with my girlfriend and she had ALL the lights and tv on. i didnt think it would harm the plants any. welllll... this morning i did my daily ritual of walking in my closet and saying hello to my babies and to my dismay, 2 of my plants have developed seeds/balls overnight!!! what is the deal? i have three plants total, the largest is at 38inches and has no balls, the middle and smaller (30 and 10 inches) now do have these ball things, BUT THEY ALSO HAVE FLOWERS??? im confused, is there a way i can pick the balls off and hope for the best? or should i just trash the two and let my big girl grow all alone? sorry this is a long post...first timer here with dozens of questions.

Hey Mike: Some questions for you: what lighting schedule are you on and how old are the plants?

If you are still in the vegetative lighting schedule (at least 18 hours of light per day) then what you are probably seeing is preflowers and yes, they sound like males - or you could have some hermies there.

I personally kill all males on sight (ooh, that sounds so harsh, huh guys? )

well i couldnt tell ya how old the plants are exactly as they were given to me in a 5 gallon bucket with 5 plants in it. i got rid of 3 but i couldnt decide which of the two tallest to pull out so i guess i made a mistake by keeping 2 plants in one pot. they were 12 and 16 inches when i got them and i put them on the 12/12 right away (about 2 1/2 weeks ago) is there any photo's online that would show me the difference in preflowering and buds? now im not even sure about my big 38inch plant...no balls yet, but the same kind of flowers on it.

Male plants do flower as well, so since you're on 12/12 for this long, I think you have some males there. Sorry!!!

Don't kill the males.I'm a male and there's nothing wrong with that. Anyway I'm looking in the marijuana growers guide by mel frank and the flowers are very different in males and females.
the males have the little balls like you said and the females have these little hairs that stick up
let me try to scan this and post a pic but I cant promise anything cause I'm a computer idiot.

hmmm...well im not too upset about it, this is my first grow...just doing my homework...i guess i should go kill em now huh? is there anything i can do with this male? it is a good 28 inches tall and has some real nice looking fan leaves?

You can grow your males if you want and smoke the bud they produce - many people do that-but their yield is low and they are of course a pollination threat to the girls. Others make hash oil etc. out of them. Check out the recycling forum for more ideas.

One thing to remember is that your tallest faster growers are most likely to be males! So if you have to pull some seedlings and you leave only the tallest and biggest ones, you may be killing the girls!
