![]() | I have some questions about my three small plants. They sprouted a week or so ago and I just transplanted them into thier own seperate containers a couple days ago. My first question is: When I was transplanting, I noticed the root system looked kind of small, or weak compared to other roots I've seen. I wonder if they are just developing, or if there is a problem. Secondly; assuming that my plants are normal root-wise, how long do I have until I need to worry about them getting root bound? The pots the're in are 8"-10" in diameter and about 5"-7" high. Lastly; I have a soil concern. My soil still feels moist, even after going awhile without watering in a hot, dry room. What I am wondering is, is this moisture the plant can use, or is it trapped in the dirt. I have heard that some soils need to be a certain degree moist before they have any water for the plant. the moistness of my soil is roughly that of a well rung-out wet washcloth. It is a commercial top soil mix. Thats all. Thank you. | ||

| High hazyreality, and welcome to hc.com. ![]() At one week of age you shouldn't expect the roots to be very developed yet. The general rule on container size is one gallon per foot of plant height. Another indicator is the upper part of the plant grows in proportion to the roots. So when a plant is about the size of its container, it's probably time to transplant. Straight potting soil or top soil will hold water for quite a while. Marijuana likes loose, airy soil that supplies the roots with plenty of oxygen which they need in addition to water, so you should mix in about 50% perlite with the soil. Then it will dry out faster. You want it to be completely dried out throughout the root space before you water again each time. | ||
