Question Newb grower/poster with a newb question :)
permalink

I planted my sprouts 9 days ago, and they're about 5 inches tall now. The stalks are still pretty thin, so my question is, is this normal? Should they be thicker by now, for the age and height?

Hope some peeps care to help

My stems started out a little thin. Do you have them under fluorescent lights? Also, the lights need to be just an inch or two above your babies.

do you have a fan going? A fan will simulate wind and help the stem bulk up a bit...just don't put it so close that you blow your babies over

could be thicker, but no worries. make sure you have a fan on them to produce thicker stems by giving them wind stress. what type of lighting and how close to the tops of the plants are they? for flor, you want them basically on the tips of the plants, and with mh, you want about 1-2 feet inbetween the bulb and the tips. the closer the lights are, the less the plants stretch and the thicker the stems will become as well
good luck

how far above the plants is the 100 w light? and how many plants do you have? 100 watts is good for one, possibly 2 plants in my opinion

it's about 4-5 inches about the plants, and i keep raising it as they grow. also making sure it's not too hot.

i had 3 sprouts going under it but one died off a few days ago. the other two look great, just the small stem problem.

Sounds like they are stretching then for light a bit to me.

How much between the cotyledons and the first set of true leaves?
