i still consider myself a newb at growing so any information will be helpful i looked around and everyone is saying different things I got confused im looking to take cuttings or to prune some of my plants to increase the yield and have bigger plants, im guessing that pruning and cutting is the same thing, right? i have 3 plants that are a little over a month old and about 3 inches high, this is only my 2nd grow and I still believe that i kinda messed up , so i germinated 3 more seeds and planted them a few days ago , they all sprouted and right now their under a 24/0 light to help them develop..if there anything I can do to my plants to help them grow faster, im using miraclegro but that isnt really helping the fact that I want to make my plants get taller and look more bushy if u know what i mean.. ![]() i feed them MG every 2 weeks, or so, to help it grow faster, ive seen a little bit of progress but im still kinda worried what i want to know is, where exactly do I prune/cut to allow other leaves to grow out again, i have them on 12/12 light but they are still small and I dont think they've even reached their vegetation stage of their lifetime. anything I can do to correct my plants and help them get back on track..thanks alot! ![]()

![]() | Welcome aboard! What were you using for light in your first grow? # inches high isn't that bad if your keeping the light close causing the nodes to stay close together. I have a little one right now that is 15 days old and is about 4 inches tall. Sounds like you are on the right track with your second grow. Keep em under the lights and dilute the MG until they get a little bigger. Good luck G UNiT SOuLjA! ![]() Oh yea, I almost forgot. I cut the top off my older plant when it was three weeks old. Now instead of one top I have two and both are very healthy at 5 weeks and ready to be put into flowering any day now. I could have cut them off again and had four or even six tops, but it seems the more you cut the smaller the tops and the more time it takes to recover from each cut. Take a look in my grow journal and see for yourself. Last edited by Zizzy; 03-11-2003 at 12:36 PM..

![]() | im guessing that pruning and cutting is the same thing, right? Nope...to take a cutting is a propigation method...pruning is removing areas of growth to engourage more growth. About the fert...I wouldn't fert at all until the cotyledons (first 2 little round leaves)yellow fall off. This is in indicatior that the plant is mature enough to take fert and not get damaged. Start at 1/4 strength and slowly increase. Considering the age, your plants are quite small...Tell us about your lighting, temperature, ect. as these contribute to growth rate!!!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | sounds like not enough light or not big enough pots or maybe it's using dirt like you recommended to someone before that is causing your plants to grow slowly. it could be many things. training (lst) means bending the top down to encourage new shoots to grow up to the light. topping means cutting off the top to encourage new shoots to form. fim is cutting part of a top to encourage even more new shoots than topping (but the results are not always 100% better than cutting the whole top). check the training forum for lots of info on training/pruning methods.

about those cotyledons, they already turned yellow but didnt fall off yet.. meaning they are still immature, their on 12/12 light right now, all 3 of my older plants.. my lighting is (4) 34-watt floroscent fixtures, temperature is around mid 70's cause I have a vent in the grow area which keeps the temperature up thats basically it, theres not much I can really describe about it, i have one fixture that is on a timer for 12/12 for my 3 older plants and the other one which is for 3 other new plants for 24/0 i didnt consider re-planting yet because i didnt think they were big enough yet so i was gonna give it a little more time Quote:
i have potting soil mixed in with perlite
