Exclamation Lower leaves turning yellow?
permalink

My two plants are now three months old and look like they are developing a health problem. Many of the lower leaves are turning completely yellow and curling up. I have also noticed that some are even falling off. In addition, many of the leaves in the middle portion of the plant are curling up in the serraded edges. I am guessing that they may not be getting enough light, or I am not watering enough, maybe the elements are not balenced properly such as pH or whatnot. As for the rest of the plant, it look very, very healthy. If there are anyone that has experienced this problem or know anything I can do, I could use some advice please. Thanx!

Need some more info. like how old what kind of light and so on.... But it does sound like a problem i had with a Mg deficiency. Sometimes if the ph isn't correct in your soil, it won't alllow the plant to soak up any magnesium. You need to check your ph. Keep ph above 6.5. Mg is often in soil but unavailable because soil is too wet/cold or acidic, and excess of K, ammonia (nitrogen) and calcium (carbonate)bind Mg in soil. I would go ahead and treat it as if it were a Mg deficiency because it's hard to overdose on Mg. Mix two tablespoons of epsom salts to one gallon of water. Water regularly until new growth shows no signs of it. the leaves that are curled may stay that way. but color should return.

should have said this too. For faster results you can spray foliage w/ a 2% soulution of epsom salts. Do Not Spray it while your light is on or it will leave burn spots from the light hitting the water. Make sure you have a fan on it too.

I started germination late Febuary and that took 2 weeks, I have been running 20/4 fluresent lighting till last week and now I am running 12/12 lighting. But I did notice the yellow leaves before the change in lighting. The soil used in my 10" pots, is just a basic brand but I mixed slow release BB's into the soil prior to planting so I was thinking I may not need to fertalize. Currently the plants are about 2' tall and have had a fairly cold winter with much humidity, it was expected since they are in a treefort without heating or any dehumidifier. BUT right now these guys are looking really healthy and I am just waiting till flowering. However, I am just wondering what the hell is goin on. Thanx!

P.S. How can I test for this ****, such as pH tesing and all the others, I don't know how to really tell what the pH is and where to find that tool.

I just picked one up at lowes with a probe for around 5-6 bucks, look for them in the inside garden area, they're pretty hard to find in the store as there's no set place for them to be ususally so ask someone and they'll point them out for you, dunno why the stores seem to hide them but they do.

That's too much. 1/4 teaspoon per gallon is the generally recommended amount, 1/2 teaspoon at the most. As with any other fertilizer, you can burn them with epsom salt.

At this point, will the deficiency in Mg affect the flowering stage? I don't want these guys to go bad. Will it slow the process, will the bud quantity go down, etc. What will be the aproximate length of time before I start seeing flowering?

Hey, I'm having a little of this problem too... The plant is growing and making new leaves on top, but the lower leaves are limp, and look unhealthy. The very tips have browned...
It's about a month old, I have it in a closet with 1 flouro and 1 plant light, and a fan. The temp ranges from 87-92 degrees. All in all it's growing well... i dunno...
