Question Streching HELP ?
permalink

Hey everyone i KNOW my plants have streched they are held up by a match stick and a little thead, i have put a little amount or dirt round it but how much should i burry it up too if i should bury it at all ?

the plant is 6.5" tall and the sprouting leaves are wilting and dying (normal) they are about 2" up the stalk and then another inch or inch and a 1/2 till the first leaves

neway can neone tell me how muchi should bury it. i know it's streched b4 people say thats right, but it grew VERY tall in the first few days cos i had the light to far away "corrected that now" slowed down growth but the stalk is very thin but it's thicker at the top where the leaves have devided shall i burry about 2" away from the start ok the leaves ? there are only 3 sets of leaves on the head cos it's only 3 weeks old slower growth dew to lowe watt light and didn't have a reflector till today so alot of light was excaping, fixed all problems and all i need now is a little know how on if i should bury the stalk a little that won't hurt the plant at all with it ? i have it on the 24/0 light time thats ok or shall i switch it to a 18/6 to alow the roots to grow a little, (darkness helps root growth i heard)

will the stalk fatten out as i have put the light closer to the plant to slow the growth and stop the streching i have a fan on it too i know that helps make the stalks a little stronger

so ne tips u guys ???

Burrying the stem an inch or so should not hurt the plant. I speak from personal experiance when I had a somewhat similar problem. I actually even noticed that the stem I burried in the dirt grew some roots and utilized the new soil depth. As for lighting schedules, everyone is different, but I personally would recomend 18/6. It gives the ladies a little time to rest and gives your electric bill a little time to rest! They dont do any real extra growing during those 6 hours anyway. I also read around hear somewhere that photosynthisis is reversed to some degree during darkness and it givs the plants some time to balance out. Darkness is important for the plants in nature and I take them off the 24/0 after the first couple weeks. As for everything else I think you got it covered. 1- lower the light and you did that. 2-use a fan and your doing that. 3-prop them up with some kind of splint until they get strong enough and your doing that as well. Good luck sounds like your on your way! Cheers!

....alot i took ur advise and burryed about an inch looks smaller lol, i have also heardabout the 18/6 is best but i am doing a growth timetable,

1-4" = 24/7
4-11" = 18/6
11"+ = 12/12 i got the time table from a exp grower whos told me the plants CAN use all the 2 hours of light up till about 4" tall then he switchs over to 18/6 to save power and ALSO it helps create a heathy root system, thanks neway

I've transplanted lower into the dirt, and I can't see why it would hurt. The only risk is putting the plant too low in a pot and having it run out of room for the roots. But, back to your question, I highly (very hiiiiiiighly) doubt that dirt up the stem would hurt at all. The only drawback may be that it doesn't thicken up under the soil (which could cause it to fall), but again, using a fan, getting the lights lower, and letting nature take it's course should work
