This is the first time with white widow, got the seeds from worldwide. Here's a quote from their page.......

"Flowering Time: On both mediums it is suggested to flower (12 hours light) the White Widow for 8 weeks but 10 weeks will really give you the crystals you desire. We suggest the final 2 weeks of the flowering cycle to turn the lights off altogether or at least down to 6 hours. This keeps the flowers from re-growth and stresses the plant into giving up it's last drops of goodness as crystal to protect the flower... try it!"

I've never heard of this... anyone else have experience with doing this?

I had never heard of this either untill I went to Mhungs GROW JOURNAL hes currently growing WW and hes going to do a 2 week dark period...

Check his journal out to see how it goes...

[edit] I just double checked... hes doing a 6/18 light cycle for the last two weeks...

Im no expert but ive never heard this before. Just remember to stop the feeding a few days before harvest. Oh and also, those are just recomendations.. You should go by the needs of your plant, not the instructions for the seeds, which im sure you are. Sorry i cant help more.

Hi nightina, There are lots of debates as to whether the dark period on the white strains actually increases trich production or Thc production.

I have had WW finish in 51 days, and Crazy Diamonds have gone for 67 days, both grows were using clones from the same mother........so take what the seedbanks say is the flowering time as a rough guide......

As for the 2 week dark period, if you can keep the Rh down under say 30%(avoids mould) and keep the temps within range, why not try it. I may be trying a week with my WW this time just to see

BTW if anyone has ever wondered how much of a difference genetics make, I'll just say this... last grow = bag seed = skinny sticks of crap whereas white widow = in week five of flower looks like i was eating a powder sugar doughnut over the tops of my girls...

dude, ive heard of that before, i forget, but i read and it says like the plant tries to protect itself from something and covers itself in them extra high crystals.

Well genetics does matter but just because it's bagseed doesn't mean the genetics suck, the growing conditions also matter. You can grow bagseed and have it turn out better than a purchased seed if the conditions are right. I grow bagseed every grow and it was just as stinky and sticky as the bud it was when I smoked it. On the other hand another buddy o mine buys his seeds from a seed bank and his buds aren't as dense as mine prob his light lol. Maybe I'm just getting some super bagseed

What is Bagseed? Seed you've gotten from bags of dope right? Well why wouldn't it be good bud? Most of the bud i get is wiked bud anyway, so why wouldn' the seeds be any good? You've just gotta look at my latest grow to see that purple flowering buds with heaps of crystalls is possible with even the worst of seeds... coz the seeds from this gro were green, small, and most probly immature... but the plants are lookn great...

When it comes to bag-seed...if the smoke was killer, in most cases it probably would be good smoke. However, you can't expect the consistency from bag-seed as you would from quality genetics.

Seeds that come from a breeder have been bred so that every seed produces the same quality smoke with very little inconsistency.

I currently at day 58 flower of my WW. At first I was going to do a 6/18 light cycle for the last two weeks. However, I'm only gonna complete a weeks worth followed by a 48 hr dark period. I decided this while looking through my trusty microscope. I was instantly bombarded by lots of cloudy trichs and a few amber. It's hard to say if this cycle helped, it just looks frosty as heck. Mine will finish on day 60, and I definetly can live with that. Peace.
