Question hydotron rocks for drainage
permalink

after a long time of growing hydro have made the switch to soil

just found the hydro to be to much work....timers pumps changing tanks
got to be a real chore and it was not as much fun to grow as it should be....

i have a 22 gallon containor of hydotron rocks can i use these for drainage in the bottom of 5 gallon buckets instead of gravel or river rock?

no reason not too really except maybe you dont want to have all the parametrics(magnetic field) and cec(cation exchange capacity)below the main root zone at the bottom.. but dont really know your whole mix..
i've done the hydotron layer on the bottom and have liked it somewhat but really i would rather have a low parametric .. low cec bottom layer..
alot of people just use the hydrotron rocks and mix them in there regular soil mix

in a large container (3-5 gallon) i use hydroton rocks covered by soil as a drainage layer. rocks are scattered parsely (5-8%) throughout the main soil mix, mostly organic soil and perlite. finally, rocks sit as a top layer.
i am watering/feeding every 3-4 days. plants sit outside in the sun.
plants are enjoying this set-up.

peace,
duck
