Seed Shell Still Intact After Breaking Through Soil
permalink

This has happened to me twice in the 4 seeds I was able to germinate/plant/sprout. The first time, I gently removed the shell from the first leaves after a couple days, and it's doing better now. This time, the shell is way more intact after breaking through the soil and I'm not sure when/if it will break off and let the first leaves get light.

Does this happen often? My first success, this didn't happen at all, only saw the first leaves with no remains of seed shell anywhere.

How long has anyone seen this last before the shell falls off? Only read about this once in all the stuff I've read, and it said, as I remember not to mess with it since the plant is extremely delicate at this stage, but do they sometimes need "help"?

Say '84,
Sometimes they do need some help. Doesn't sound like the shell is going to come off on its own. Just carefully separate the shell halves and remove it. I've had to do this before. Yer babe needs sun!

Exactly what I needed to hear! It DOES sometimes happen (and not just to ME!)!

Going to give it another day to do it on it's own, though. The first time, the shell wasn't too hard to separate/remove, but this time it looks like it'll be way harder, and I certainly don't want to damage it.
