i remember posting on a thread somewhere on here where someone asked about the effect of music and talking to your plants has on its growth rate and harvest yield... they tested this on a show called mythbusters the other night... for those of u who dont know what that show is, its basically as the name says: they prove popular myths either true or false by doing various tests and experiments... good show for watchin if your into that kinda stuff (discovery channel)... but anyways... they had several greenhouses set up with pea plants in them... plants that were grown in silence, plants that were talked to (bad and good) with classical music playing on a constant loop, and ones that were talked to (good and bad) with heavy metal music playing on a constant loop... the end results were a landslide and to my surprise as well... the plants that were grown in complete silence had the lowest plant mass after harvest (something around 3 grams i think)... the ones growing under classical music had the second largest yield (something around.. 13 grams or something like that)... the ones growing with heavy metal music playing had by far the largest yield (33 grams) of plant mass... talking to them has a positive effect as well.. it doesnt really matter what you say to them, but it does have a positive effect... i had thought classical was best, but they proved that wrong... the peas from the metal plants also tasted much better...all plants were being grown in greenhouses on a roof of a tall building and all recieved the same amount of light, water, and nutrients... the only difference from greenhouse to greenhouse were music and the voices of the growers saying anything from threatening to kill them to saying they were the most beautiful plants they had ever seen... but at any rate, i think its pretty obvious that heavy metal music has the most positive impact on a plant's growth rate and it cant hurt to talk to them either ![]()

![]() | It is well documented that classical music increases beta waves in us, and it supposedly the best to study by. It is also proven that nitric oxide release in plants and humans can be altered by listening to music. Nitric oxide delays the fruiting stage, however. It is also why plantlife is so green and lush after a lightning storm, lightning being the number two producer of NO, the first being pollution. It is theorized that NO increases circulation in plants like it does in humans, and music is just one way of increasing the production and release of it.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hello all; Now I don't know much about Beta waves, gama rays and such things, but what I do know is that as you talk to your plants you expell Co2 from your lungs. Durning the light cycle the plants love a little extra Co2. Many grower's spend big bucks on dry ice or Co2 generators or even bottled Co2 with a regulator. This past March Cecil_b produced an outstanding post on Co2 and everything you might want to know or need to know. I found it to be an outstanding read even though I don't use Co2 or plan on it, that is past making a point to talk to my plants everyday.......do what I do every day when I enter my grow room I sing a song click here to read that post. Now for music: yes music is good....we all know about placing a fan within the grow room to create a light breeze on the plants and get them moving. This movement creates micro fracture's with in the stems, the plant then heals those micro fracture's causing the stem to grow big and strong. Your plant stems are like a super highway delivering the needed nute's, oxygen and Co2 to the leaf. The better and stronger your stems the better your plant can supply it's self with what it needs to get the job done right and proper. How does music fit in to this you say? Simple SOUND WAVES. When the sound waves impact your plant they set up a vibration within the plant that cause's the same micro fractures and again the plant heals itself causing stronger and larger stems to deliver them goodies to the plant leaf and build a strong branch to support the weight of those great big buds you are growing Why did the Heavy Metal out preform the Classical music? Base, base and deep base creates a stronger vibration causing even more micro fracture's, hence the better results. Which is better for your plants the fan or music? I don't know. Why don't you try an experiment and let us know your results. Personnelly I think I will cover all the bases and introduce my plants to the works of the Grateful Dead while keeping the fan going too. While I knew about the results of music on plants I never thought to use it on my plants, that is until I read this post by uhm, thanks uhm.daltron

Personally I've used a fan and rock music station on both my last two grows. Yes, I even talk to my girls everyday before and after work before the lights/fans go off. They like the breeze, music, and CO2. Gotta give those girls love.

![]() | Actually I heard once that you can, periodically, pour a bit of a carbonated beverage of yer choice around yer plant to give them a lil boost of C02. I thibnk it was Jerry Baker and I'm almost sure he prefers beer!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | There were a few older threads on music/sound and plant growth, which I was unable find... ![]() From what I remember..lite classical was best...Shubert's 7th in particular...maybe 5th ?? ..stimulated growth much better than heavy metal.....I (xzoomd) also found some data that the chirping of birds stimulated growth...which prompted some peeps to start calling me Tweet-Tweet ...anyway...from what I remember...5000hz was the magic number. Labrat_x posted an online thing with a hz scale with the sound.. 5000hz was rather annoying to me. ...but I would say that sound has its place...if all other environmentals are optimal....haha...sssh...but I still feed the birds directly outside of my basement grow.Tweet Tweet ![]()
