Buds weighing branches down
permalink

Aside from the obvious problem of having the branches break, is there another down side to having buds that are weighing the branches down?

Right now I have a plant that's about 4' tall, 3' x 3'. I went nuts with LST, so it's bushy as sin. The side buds are about 2.3-3" long and about half as thick. They're starting to weigh the branches down--in fact, I've already tied 7 branches, as they were below horizontal. The main cola is about 7" tall and about one-third as wide. It's causing the plant to lean to one side. I tried to tie the plant upright this morning, but got limited results.

I don't know how far from the end I am (I thought I had 11 days left, but that was figuring with a 60/40 indica/sativa; this plant is leaning far more to the sativa side--none of the pistils on the main cola have turned colors yet).

Thanks in advance.

Grow room: 250W MH, 250W HPS, Mylar on three walls, FoxFarm Tiger Bloom used for flower, 5 gal. pot, veg'ed plant for 50 days.

I had two almost 6 foot monsters and towards the end of their lives they looked like octopi...all you can really do is support the big nice branches you really like (atleast that's whati did) I just tired a little string to the main stem holding the base of the weak branch...worth a shot

A nice thing to have to do......if they are doing that your doing something right...

My room is usually a maze of string ties by the end......and I don't mind doing it a bit...as long as its steady and can support a little weight...it gets tied to..

Yes...I agree with xjo. A quite enjoyable predicament. I am about to do a little tieing of lower buds myself. This is what they mean when they say...If you find a job you really love, you'll never work a day.

If I have to do some more "work" a little later on, I'll be overcome with joy.

The only drawback is if you don't tie them down and the buds droop away from the lights - obviously you want those budding branches closer to the lights.

Thanks for the quick answers... I'll continue to keep them tied up (reverse LST ).

Lightbulb Tried Florist's wire?
permalink

if your stem/trunk is strong enough may I reccomend some flroists' wire. Strong stuff. works well for support, and no string to get in the way. comes in green rolls, 5 bucks or so (that's a low-ball estimate). use some wire cutters to cut the stuff, and gently wrap it where it's needed. it's the stuff I use on ALL the plants I've ever grown. shouldn't hurt your ladies at all. give it a try. like I said, it's a lot easier to handle than string, and a lot stronger. if the trunk isn't strong enough, use a dowel in the pot (i dunno if you already did that) but a good dowel is a great tool to add support to the main trunk esp when other branches need tying off. well, there's my let me know what you decide to do and how it works out for you.
