Mary Jane Midspan Rooting/Rooting Above the Branches

Heya everyone, I have a plant here that I was able to get to root midspan(above the branches) to its stem. Do you think this could be valuable to me in an LST situation or at all in general? I'd like to see what happens with some LST, perhaps I can root the midspan roots into the soil with it's main roots. Either way, anyone have any experience with this?

Some plants send out roots above the soil line, although usually it's an indication of something. If bent over, the change in orientation triggers a change in plant auxins that induces roots, since the plant's natural response to bent over stems is to re-establish a new set of roots to stabilize. Roots also have a different "bark" or outer skin, which makes that area resistant to mold and allows transmission of nutrients.

A plant that is rootbound will also force out roots - I've had Wandering Jews and other houseplants do this when the pots their in are too packed.

n_d_shadows has a thread going where they are intentionally trying to force roots out of a living rooted plant (called air layering). You might want to surf over to that thread and take a peek. I'm sure people watching that thread would be interested to hear about your spontaneous root situation

Tomato plants do this alot, i had a small tom plant that turned into a huge bush after it done that, it spread through half my veg patch

You could try and root it into the soil or even try and give it a whole bucket, double the root space, this might give ya some amazing budage.

Is it still in veg??

I once had a plant do this after I accidentally split the stalk a little. I taped it up and after it healed, there were roots under the tape.
