New growth from main stem?
permalink

Quick question. I have new growth starting from the main stem. It starts out as a fan leaf and then after it has grown a little I have a very light green/ yellow thing. It hasn't grown enough yet for me to tell what it is. Thought it might be another branch, but I didn't know since the fan leaf came out first. I've been waiting for preflowers to show so I can start 12/12, but none so far. Could this be a sign that it is ready.

Well, typically, after you already have the fanleaf and the growth stem at that node, your growth might be one of two things:

1. a stipule (i believe that's what it's called), and it's a little pointy thing that grows at the node and to my knowledge serves absolutely no purpose.

2. pollen sack or flower. However, this typically grows after the stipule is already there.

How long have you been vegging the plant and under what type of light?

Sounds like new growth to me (secondary branching) . That would be the next logical step.

Are you showing alternating nodes yet?

yes, I am showing alternating nodes on some secondary branches. This is on the main stem. At one node site I have stiplules, fan leafs, branches, and growing almost 90 degrees to stem is a new small fan leaf with what looks to be the start of a new branch starting halfway up the fan leaf stem. Plant has been vegged for 75 days. Will I ever see secondary branching on main stem? I've been looking at pics of preflowers and reading all the tips, but I haven't seen anything that looks like this. Maybe some different pics of preflowers would help. I've seen ones that are typically passed around. Thanks for the help.

Yes, been doing LST. Using 150 HPS and 2 42watt CFls. Anyone have a clue if I could start flowering? I've read conflicting info. Some say switching to 12/12 before preflowers show could stress the plants. Is this true, or should I switch when ready?

Thanks for the help xjo.
