Should I?
permalink

Hey everyone,

Well I have my current setup as a 400MH as you can see

I have 6 plants in that pot (I know way too much )
but when they were seedlings I was seeing which ones would survive and had the best traits but I ended up passing the point of no return with the plants unless I damaged all of them while transplanting.

So now they are in their 5th week 2nd day of veg growth and the soil seems pretty darn compact with roots. (can barely stick finger inch in soil without alot of resistance)

I was planning on growing them to 2ft (they are 16in right now)
But I am concerned that the overly compact roots might affect the flowering.

Any suggestions about if I let them grow to 2ft, will their roots be too compact in flowering? I can give more pics if needed.

I would take them from the clay pot first of all because clay soaks up alot of moisture then maby a five gallon bucket. See if you can build a screen and start branching all of them out and side ways. They look awfully healthy you could do a nice scrog with that i say. Are they all female?

hi chris,

thats a tough one

my first thought was to get a bigger pot and fill with soil, cut the bottom out of the current pot and sit it on top of the new one and let the roots continue to grow down...but thats a clay pot right?

check out grOwers soil journal, he has been growing multiple plants in the one pot with amazing results. he might be along and give you some advice

Its actually a plastic pot. I was thinking about transplanting into a bigger pot but I would rather not have the delay in growth. My personal supply is depleated so the sooner the better in a way.

I am going to be taking clones from these. Thats the grow Ill have everything much better organized and spread out and try to get more yeild from. The current one is just testing to see which is a good plant.

I know one is a sure female, it started sprouting white hairs from the main stem even though I have it running 24/0
and that plant has some great genetics, making it a primo plant to clone

Transplant into a bigger pot and do it as soon as you can. Transplant shock might cost you a day or two but leaving those plants in that pot will get them seriously rootbound, more so than they are already. Rootbound plants will have a hugely negative impact on yield at harvest, assuming they even make it that far.

With all those plants, you might want to consider a rubbermaid tote or similar container. I don't think a 5 gallon bucket is going to be big enough.

You've got enough potential problems by growing all of them in one container. Don't exacerbate it by not giving their roots enough room.

I've never transplanted at this time in growth. How should I remove the plants from the pot? Should I just cut and remove the current pot?

With the soil slightly moist but not wet, 'work' the root/dirt mass out of the pot by placing your hand over the soil and turning the pot upside down. Gently agitate the pot and the entire root/soil ball should slide right out. It will be a little messy but given the way the roots have grown through the soil it should come out mostly in one big chunk.

Make sure you have the other container ready to go before you start.

I've gone from 3 gallon pots to 5 gallon buckets before... it can be done. Your plants will thank you!

well I have some good news, I ended up going through with it and I transplanted them into a 23 gallon tub. It went pretty well and I only lost 2 fan leaves due to big rocks falling from the bottom of the pot. I ended up making a huge mess, looked like a soil bomb went off

I gave them some nice watering afterwards and tooks some pics along with it. enjoy

Soil Bomb, that was just the beginning 80x worse 5 min later

Can you say rootbound? ^^^^^

After I finished everything ^^

So after an hour and a half I learned I learned that transplanting=sucks
But it is well worth it. I will be switching them into flowering this sat, but will be taking some clones from a few plants. I should start a journel?

Pretty good job ya did there. Transplanting sucks the first time, but it gets easy, and actually pleasurable ( you can see the growth spurt that follows!)
