Transplant now or wait a couple days?
permalink

My plants are tied down and trained so I made the mistake of misjudging how large they really were. When I measured the stem they turned out to be 20-24 inches in 1 gallon pots. I know the rule of thumb is 1 gallon per foot of growth. I have some 2 gallon pots ready for transplant but I watered my plants just a few days ago and the soil is still a little damp a couple inches down.

So my question is: Is it cool to transplant them now even if the soil is damp still and water them afterthe transplant?

Just wait a couple days then carefully seperate the bottom of the rootball so some of the roots are hanging down. Then carefully put your thumbs together and seperate the side roots. Many growers transplant to a lager pot before the plant is ready for it.Yours is definately ready.

I agree.

You mentioned the plants were 20-24 inches tall. Using the rule 1 ft per gallon means 2 gallons is still to small
