I then place the whole plant in the stand and tighten the screws, standing it in the dark to dry for approximately the same time you would by inverting it.

The benefit here is that gravity works in my favor. Instead of the branches, buds and leaves closing in on the stem as they do when "hung", they all separate and open themselves up "like a christmas tree" does when placed in one's living room.

This allows the air to circulate much better, drying the plant more thoroughly and in my experience, I've never developed mold! When its time to cut the plant up for the final cure, it is a joy to have the ease of having every part of it splayed and spreadout before me making the job so much easier.
Folks,

For the record, I dried one out of two of my last harvested plants like this and one the normal hanging way. The differences were negligible.

As a matter of fact I built a piece of wood similar to Keefhead's for the test. There is almost no humidity in my neck of the woods so mold was never a factor.

Some of the fan leaves did actually hang away from the plant to make manicuring easier, but not to any degree.

There you have it. In my case, no measurable difference. Theoretically though, the risk of mold may be lessened this way if there is a real threat to begin with.

Any of you other nutcases give this a try?

Jeez where the hell are you Milagro? lol
The dew point has been like 80 here all week, im dying.]

Im not near my harvest yet, but i was wondering, could i reduce chances of Mold if i left the buds drying near the oil burner? Not for heat purposes per say, but just for its drying effect. Wouldnt the burner reduce the ambient humidity in the general area?

Hi jay,

I'm not too far from Madrid, Spain. It's dry here. No ocean, few rivers and lakes. Wind blows down out of the mountains. Lots of sun. Pretty country.

I think drying in any atmosphere heated in such a way would probably help to some degree.

Good luck.

I trim all the leafs before I hang mine. Much easier to do it before they all dry out. You don't have to worry about them blocking any airflow that way either. Then hang the buds "the old fashion way" by the stem A friend of mine was telling me how to dry my buds yesterday. He said, " just pull the plants out at the roots, and hang the entire plant upside down by the roots for a week, then all the thc runs back into the buds" . What a nightmare it would be, trimming them that way, with all the dried foliage. I'd be there until the next harvest

Well, I dry somewhat similarly. I don't hang the whole plant really, but I don't trim anything until it's dry. Most of the fan leaves get so dry that they fall right off without my help. It's not bad to trim it with what's left. I have good airflow and a nice warm room for them to hang in.

I like to trim off the larger fan leaves to let more light in to the lower buds, but I don't "strip" the plant.

As to the "drying board" I found it to be an interesting idea, but not worth it. Hang that sucker, let it dry, and smoke the mutha.

And please, don't anybody fall for the "THC runs..." line of old wives tales. The THC is in the trichomes, and no additional THC will form or be created by hanging them, you do it just to dry it. The THC has been there, maturing and aging, and when the trichomes turn cloudy, its HARVEST time.

Yup trichome 'running' sure is, i dunno if those people have touched it, but i doubt that it would 'run' anywhere, its glued on good. People have weird theories on cannabis, like the one "watch out for males, they will turn your females into males" I grew up with that one but when i read into it i was like wow cannabis is a normal plant, pollen and seeds.... What a suprise, where do people come up with this sorta stuff? Why dont they watch it dry and see if any crystals pick up their bags and move south

while we are talking about the hanging upside down method, i heard using a fan to get air to circulate might cause mold, is this true or does this reduce the chance of mold. I figure instead of letting the buds sit upside down and leave the door open a little, putting a fan near by would help reduce the chance of mold seeing that air circulation is what helps dry the plants.
