kk,

Good ventilation is a must for marijuana until it goes into the jar.

A cool dry place with adequate air flow will give your plants....

the environment they need to dry properly with the least chance of mold.

Try to keep the humidity down, a fan is also a good idea.

Make sure the air moves around the room but not necessarily directly on the plant.

i've used a fan before but kept it on low and made sure it didn't blow directly on the plants but then i started to wonder if i was just lucky i didn't get mold because someone told me it was possible the fan could make it happen.

Just rummaging about in the old moldy subscription file (can you believe I hold on to these things? )

This thread is one of my favorites.

I laugh out loud many times throughout.

I was a noob when I posted back then, but still having a pretty good time.

Fire one up and start from the beginning.

Many years ago, I was doing research on how hash was processed. I do not remember the source except the fact that it was a reputable printed resource.

At any rate it went on to describe an ancient Afghani technique which involved runners draped in a fine weave burlap running through the crops, with the resins being collected off of the fabric afterwards. The source went on to mention that the runners would pass through the crops during the hottest part of the day for two reasons: It was at this time that the plant increased production of resins to protect itself from extreme heat, and it was also at this time of day that the resin were in a liquid, not crytal form, thus more likely to "catch a ride" on the fabric.

Fact, Fable, Myth? I don't know.

We all learn, falling for some lines, and knowing better with others.

I did try drying one right-side-up, in the wooden stand, and the buds were looser and pretty much useless for smoking, but it yielded the highest amount of hash. The inside of the buds were picked clean - under the microscope. I guess the snow/icewater got to them easier. I dunno.

Well, enough conjecturing. Time to go suck on a bong while playing with fire.

This is all too pathetic to read but if anybody actually wants to know why you leave the whole plant intact and hang it upside down is for two reasons....

1) Gravity. It is ggoing to pull the liquids in the plants down towards the main cola, so that it dries the most evennly and slowest.

2) If you cut off parts of the plant before drying it, then the plant WILL dry faster and it WILL NOT dry as evently The idea is for the plant to take as long as possible (well not as long as possible, but at least a couple weeks) to dry out so that it is very even.

Good luck

I agree completely. Cut the plant whole, hang it whole, and after a week start testing for stem crispness. That's what I do now, until someone suggests a better way. And mostly, it's what I've done for over 40 years (I'm 59+).

But I gotta admit, I love my BC northern lights dryer for drying lesser buds destined for the hash bags. To each his own. Maybe there's better, and someday I'll learn what it is.

Peace.

When I cut my plant I just cut the whole thing and the seperated the colas (I topped her ) and then tied them up on a coat hanger in front of a fan. Ta-da! A stinky mobile!

Then when I finally went to smoke it I hung upside down on a jungle gym to smoke so it would all go strait to my brain!!

Some threads will never die

I heard from a VERY experienced grower - who did a side-by-side comparison - to leave as many of the roots intact as is possible when hanging the plant up to dry. He said the buzz was better...

I plan on doing my own comparison to see if that's true.
