water curing

after reading all the threads ive seen on water curing and all the mixed reviews, ive decided what the f k ill give it a try.

first off, im doing the fresh cut method where you pick a fresh cut bud and soak it for 7 days then dry it out.

i also have the same bud thats been been curing in a glass jar for 2 weeks already. i figure by the time im done water curing the other bud will be close to being done so ill be able to do a side by side experiment to see if this method is worth it or not. i know a lot of people or very hesitant to try water curing, and i was to at first, but i don't like to knock something unless ive actually tried it personaly.

pic 1: fresh cut bud roughly trimed
pic 2: bud soaking in water with weight holding it under water
pic 3: for size comparison when finished

Good luck dankman. Any chance you can post your method as well?
Like how often the water will be changed
If you have a PPM meter, can you take readins on the water? I say this because one of the first water curing threads I read said to continue changing out the water regularly until 24 hours shows little PPM swing from base. Water PPM will rise the first few days tho.

Gardenthis has a water curing thread on here too, but I dont know if she ever completed it.

good luck and looking forward to your results.

I think that GardenTHIS and Kally are combining their collected works (water curing and strain potency guide) to be completed together and shown to us all....

one of these days.

Wink

i tried water curing last winter because i also was intrigued...here's my thought....yuck.
and this is why...i cut fresh buds....i soaked them for 7 days...in r/o water...changing it everyday...and yes it stunk...smelled like nasty swamp chemical water. then i dried the bud in a dehydrator for 5 hours.
it tasted as nasty as the water smelled. now maybe i missed something....so i will be interested to hear your comments.
i will continue to hang in the dark for 2 weeks then put them in mason jars for another 1-3 months burping everyday for the first month. i know its a pita for some people, but i've become a terrible pot snob....i love a good cured bud!
keep us posted!

Interesting....

Interesting thread. I, too, will be watching closely. Imagine, you spend a couple of months fighting humidity to prevent bud rot, only to plop the buds into water! Who woulda thunk it.......

I had a relatively good experience with water curing. The only tip I can offer is to forget the regular schedule of days and just go by the odor. It will be nasty for a few days(about a week, yeah), then it will suddenly drop off. A dehydrator is a good idea, but not necessary. Water curing depletes the mass of the bud much more than regular curing, so it dries a lot faster.
The bud will have almost no flavor or smell, and zero, "cough", so next time you're headed to an outdoor event, roll up a few and toke away undercover. I wouldn't do my whole crop with it, but its the best sampling method
