I run test-buds through the microwave if I'm not drying them atop my lamp. I use 20 second bursts at high power. All in all it takes about 5 minutes of standing around to get it to the smokeable state.

Don't run it too long at a shot though. You want your bud hot enough to evaporate the water, but not hot enough to evaporate the THC. That's why you do multiple shots of short bursts rather than one long burst.

Basically you sort of stand there while you run the microwave for 20 seconds. You then turn your bud. Then close the door and burst for 20 more seconds. Open it and turn the bud. Repeat until it's ready.

Oh, and put it on a paper towel. Bud that tastes like dried marinara sauce from the last time you miked a plate of cold pasta and sauce just ain't good. Personal experience there, trust me.

Those must be some dense buds if, after 5 days they're stilll not dry enough to at least sample at least a bong-load or 2!

Being a very impatient person myself, I've pretty much got micro-drying down to a science!

I've got this round plastic cheese grater that sits flat on the microwave turntable. I take a stem with buddage and pop it into one of the holes so the bud isn't actually touching anything as it spins inside.

Now here's the key to nuking with minimal deterioration (although you'll ALWAYS lose potency with the micro)...using the "low" power setting start at 6 minutes. Now...with the stem inside ready to go, hit start and let it run for 5 seconds. You'll hear it popping as the pistils get heated. After 5 seconds simply open the door and let some of the steam escape (I even try to blow a bit of fresh air in there every time). Then close the door, hit "start" again and repeat until the popping quits. Once the pistils quit popping you can go with 10 second bursts. Don't go any longer than 10 seconds though 'cause they'll cook in there!

Keep checking the buds until they feel hard and crackly (at about 5 minutes). Don't nuke 'em until they're dust...just dry to the touch!

It's a little repetitious doing it this way...but if you really can't wait I think it's worth it.

Hope I hepped,

pOOn

Damn Poon. You the man. A thingy to keep the bud upright, hot @#$*!

Divinorum: I prefer paper-towels to cellophane myself 'cause I know paper don't melt and it absorbs water vapor pretty good.

Another good quick dry place
permalink

is the top of your computer monitor. I have some vents in the top on the monitor that exhausts the warm air from inside the unit. Always a nice, warm breeze coming out of those holes. Place the buds on the holes and keep an eye on it. If you forget about it for a couple of hours... your bud will be powdery dry.

I really hate using the microwave. I know I am destroying THC...plus...the weed still tastes like crap.

Yeah Abs...

...I saw that cheese grater at a thrift store and just knew it would work "grate" for my needs! In fact, I think I'll start a thread touting the benefits of thrift stores for finding great grow and harvest equipment there!

What I like about it is the buds seem to dry with a look very close to air drying!

CY's right...you DO lose a lot of the taste in a microwave, and can expect a drop in potency as well. And that smell during the first minute or so is horrible! Like nuked cabbage! Haha

And BTW Abs...I didn't mean to sound like a "know-it-all", but you slid a reply in there while I was typing...didn't see yours until I posted mine.

No worries Poon. The more answers we give the better our reader is served.

I was just astonished at how cool it was that you jury-rigged up something to keep the bud upright.

When you are in a hurry, a food dehydrator is the only way to fly! I know, off subject, but it comes in handy. I am sure it is not as fast as the microwave, and I am sure most don't have one handy, but it probably tastes better than the micro!

I have only dried males with it so far.

I agree with technocult, if you have a food dehydrator, then thats the way to go, ive used that and it keeps 99% of the flavor from my experiences.

You can buy them pretty cheap from those crappy informercials that are always on tv when they could be playing decent movies for us smokers.

Of course, thats new zealand tv for ya, cheap and nasty

Have a good dry.
