![]() ![]() | The perfect harvest time is hard to say ... Some areas of the plant will finish before others. When they do, the THC begins to degrade. So what happens is, fresh THC is being produced in some places while it is degrading in others ... Most growers use what is called the law of diminishing returns. It's pretty simple really. When it appears that more degradation is taking place than fresh THC is being produced, they're done ... How do you tell ? - It's half instinct, and half careful observation. As they near the finish, watch them closely with a magnifying glass. You'll see the glands on the leaves and pistils forming and filling up with resin ... As they become full and begin to degrade, they turn amber in color. When you begin to notice more glands turning amber than new ones forming, you've reached the point of diminishing returns , then chop those babies down ... When the pistils are 50 % brown , red , gold etc , etc , this only means that the plant is entering into the phase of maturing Last edited by bobbooty; 05-18-2007 at 08:52 PM..

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | For those of you who where unfortunate enough to buy a couple of magnifying glasses thinking you had bought one strong enough only to find out you didn't, I have good news. You can double them up with a bit of practice, steady hands and you may still be able to make out the color in trichs! However me thinks the radio shack special will be alot easier. Some info, for those less fortunate. IWIC P.S. I wonder how many people have confused trich color with pistol or stigma color in the past? COURSE I'VE NEVER DONE THAT ![]()

![]() | In the past, I have harvested when about 70% of my pistils turned brown. Looking to do it right, I have been watching the trichomes closely. A couple of the buds I now have flowering have almost 100% brown pistils (90-95%?) and yet I see no amber trichomes yet. Mostly cloudy with a few clear remaining. Should I continue to wait or chop it down? The strain is Kevorkian. Hydro. 250W HPS. Now in flushing stage with plain pH adjusted water. Week 8 of flowering. Jasper ![]() PS: I bought one of those Radio Shack 'Illuminated Microscope" thingies for $10. What a piece of junk. My 8X printer's lupe does a much better job. I can't focus the Radio Shack one. It looks like something from a Cracker-Jack box, IMO.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Try cutting a small piece of leaf from the bud to check your trichomes, jasper. The Radio Shack microscope is nearly imposible to focus while looking at buds on the bush. A little snippet of a few sweet leaves will be much easier to view. I prefer harvesting my buds when they are at the stage you describe. A few clear and the rest mostly cloudy will continue to ripen after harvest into the few amber that you desire. Personal preference on this point entirely. You will not be disappointed in your harvest whenever you decide to cut. Another week and you will surely begin to see amber. ![]()
