I have some small but sweet nugs that I dried for 9 days in a very well-ventilated space at 40% humidity and I live in an area that does not have much mold. Then I placed them in jars to cure, burping them once a day. That was one week ago.

I've never harvested before so I don't know what I'm looking at, but the buds are covered with sprinkles of clear/white dots. The buds smell and taste awesome when smoked and they are super potent too.

The dots would not come out in pictures (I tried like 10 times). I'm thinking this is normal and that the spots are simply trichs. Could that be mold? I thought the mold risk was toward the beginning of the drying time, not after nearly two weeks of hang time and a week in the jars. Finally, when I have seen mold on things in a fridge it looks bright white or even has a blue tint. There's no mistaking it. The buds do not look like that - they just have tiny clear/off-white spots all over them.

Again, sorry for no pics. Opinions based on given info please? Any pics of moldy buds handy?

if you can look at them upclose, and you see little mushroom things, its the thc my friend. if its moldy, i dought you would be saying anything good about the taste. moldy bud is harsh, can make you puke/cough for hours, and get a very bad headache. small buds, 40 percent humidity for 9 days should be dry. i dought its mold. try to get a microscope or turn a binoculars around, and look under some good lighing. blue lighting is best. should see a bunch of tiny shroom types things.

Don't sound like mold to me. Watch it for a day or so, if its mold it should spread i do believe, watch for the "spots" to get larger. Or if your really worried about it and you wanna be safe, run it over a silk screen as if to make keif, only applying a little more pressure to "shave" the bud. that should take it off so if it is mold at least your not smoking it (although there may be more under the surface.)


will binoculars really work?? never really thought about doin that. thanx for the tip.

as long as they arent 5 dollar ones. its not the best, but if you can learn to focus them right it will do the job.blue flouresuant lighting, a bud at the normal end, and your eyes about half a foot from the other end, show plenty of trichs.

I don't think it's mold. They look more like crystals. Not "spots" but a consistent "sprinkle" all over the buds. I'm like an over worried parent I think. Yes, it's "sparkly", shroom looking, and loaded with THC/Resin like I've only seen once before - in very high quality bag weed. I'm suprised - I didn't think I could grow such potent stuff.

I'll get a magnifier and make sure it doesn't spread to be sure as suggested.

mold will usually look more 'cotton-ish'. also when you pull your weed apart if you watch careful, you can see the little fibers pull with it. in my experiences with mold if it's on the surface it's also in the bud, where the moisture stays even longer. similar to pulling a cotton ball apart, but not as many 'threads' and more difficult to see of course.

sometimes it can be hard to see mold, because it does camoflauge so well with the trics. so you want to take a good look, smoking penicilline is known to cause some nasty lung infections.


turning around binoculars makes things much more distant and harder to see...not the other way around. could explain to me how that works?

Also, if you do have mold you will notice a mildewy/mold smell. Sounds like you got a primo stash

not always. yes, it'll be noticable to someone who really really well knows what's what, but it's not always necessarily easy to smell, a downside to the pungent smell we've all grown so fond of, it's a very penitrating smell. a lot of times you'll have better luck smelling it if you put your nose close when you bust a nug open, but not right next to it.

I'm not saying you have mold for sure, but the way you're explaining it just doesn't sound right...."little white spots" doesn't make me think of trics. every nooby I've heard talk about what trics look like uses adjectives like 'frosty' or 'crystaly' or even 'dusty' (no disrespect intended) but they don't look like little white spots...I'd really have to see a picture to give any other advice or opinion. I think everyone here is a bit quick to write off that you don't have mold without seeing a picture with that discription...I'd be very interested to see a picture if at all possible. you could even e-mail to me if you'd like I'll pm you my e-mail address.

reach420--I'd like to be optomistic it's not mold, but sounds like it to me. Get them out of the jars, and let them totally dry out is my suggestion. If you didn't notice that when putting them into the jars, it's mold too. Trichs won't do that with the curing process, and I have a friend that got mold I saw, and I had a film canister once that got mold that looked like that in it. Let them dry, and as fast as possible if that's still on your buds, you'll be better off in the long run. IMHO I have a friend that smoked my moldy weed and no side effects, but wouldn't suggest it. Throw up even a crappy picture of them and I'll have alot better idea, but sure sounds like the beginning of mold to me.
