Mary Jane Need Help On Harvest
permalink

Im almost ready for harvest id say a week away i think its done now but i want to leech soil of all fertilizer using spring water for a week. i have recieved some information and i want to see if its a good tip or just a myth.

the first one i was told is that you cover your plants and give them 24 hours of darkness before you cut them down.

Second is that you take a knife and push through to barely the center of the base of plants the night before harvest.

The last is that you harvest in the am hours because thc levels are at its peaks in the morning?

Is there any truths to any of these suggestions? also what is a good recipe to make thc butter? i want to use leaves off my plants. im going to hang plants for a week 10 days maybe then into mason jars for a week or two i will posts end results pic

there's a good discussion on the dark period. I'm pretty sure the spike thing is a myth, but used to be practiced.

Check out the Harvesting/drying/storage forum for a bunch of great threads. Goto the cooking one and it has a bunch of good threads for butter too.

may I recommend a three day paper grocery bag treatment between those 10 days of drying and the mason jars?

for some reason, it just makes the weed nicer IMHO. the nugs are still going to sweat in the jars afterwards, you'll need to open them still once a day for a wekk or two at least. but the paper bag lets them get a little dryer before the jar and for some reason...seems to pull the liquids from the to the outside of the bud a bit more. creating much nicer burning bud. it doesn't make it stronger, just smokes more evenly. make sure you rotate the buds regularly while in the bag. too much rotating can't happen.

happy harvesting

i would just like to add that the reason for the knife in the center was to make your buds fatten up and the dark period to give it more resin

I personally believe the dark before harvest helps a little, but I leave them in the dark for 48 hrs.
The knife in the stem sounds like a load of crap ...
same with the harvesting in the morning myth... but if you cover your plant when you uncover it to harvest, Hey it's morning to her.
If you are growing outdoors , I'd be really carefull about covering her with something that is going to hold/increase the humidity around her... Mold Sucks

how would making a hole in the bottom of a plant increase resin production?

as far as I can think that would make it loose more liquid then gain. but maybe the idea is to make the plant think it's been fataly injured and trys that much harder to finish or protect the buds?

never heard of that before...

grow on
peace

You harvest in the a.m. because the fluids in the plant are flushed downward at night, and drawn upward in the daytime, hence there is less moisture int the upper parts of the plant. The a.m. comes after the dark (see the link to covering?). A knife to the base is pure BS.

Peace,
Akorn
