HEXANE sources in Virginia?

Where can I find hexane in Virginia? Can you explain the solvent properties of hexane? Are they similar to butane?

You'll prob not find hexane anywhere...

If I remember correctly, Hexane has extremely cancerous properties. So much that even a drop exposes you to extreme risks! You'll also prob need to be a chemist to even get near it with a full bio get-up...

but hexane would be the best solvent for honey oil...

Hexane isn't particularly harmful as solvents go. I looked, you can't really buy it online, most places require a University or business letterhead and a faxed order. Plus shipping is a problem. CRC QD (quick dry) no residue electrical contact cleaner is available at Home Depots for around $8 a can. Label states approved for use in food processing and meat packing plants, so it's probably as pure as you're going to find. Works great, I processed almost a pound of mold bud this year. Just make sure it's the QD type, there are 2 kinds, label ingredients show isohexanes. I spray it into a mason jar using the red tube attachment, soak it 2 hours or overnight, doesn't seem to make much difference. Pour into a pyrex dish, using a funnel and coffee filter, let it evaporate a couple days, scrape up with a razor blade.

Edit: I was going to post a link to the former owner's " Dimethylnastystuff and Tetragonnakillya" post, but I'm guessing all his posts disappeared with him, too bad, it should be a sticky in the hash oil forum, beware using most stuff off the shelf, commercial and industrial solvents may contain heavy metals, etc, stuff you really don't want to smoke. He posted it in response to people saying brake cleaner and acetone and stuff like that will work, BEWARE.

Quoted for emphasis! Please beware of solvents that are industrial grade. The only safe hexane is FOOD GRADE hexane. And its a very common solvent in the food processing industry for making lots of stuff.. (that doesn't mean its safe but at least its been extra refined and not going to have heavy metal deposits)

Lots of people use tripple refined butane but I wouldnt trust that either...

Make sure you do the "glass test" evaporate the same amount of solvent you would use for extraction in a glass bowl, and check for any leftover residue BEFORE you use it.

Does the glass test work for all sprayable solvents? So basically if there is any fog or something left on the glass its probably a heavy metal or other sort of nasty thing to be eating right?
