Overdried marijuana cure?
permalink

It's been 4 days since I hung my plants, and they seem to be too dry. The leaves are "chrispy". The humidity in my room is about 30-40%

Is there a way to fix this?

increase your humidity to dry on the next grow to 50% or 55% and dont put the fan blowing directly on the buds

one time when i was a kid long long time ago i tried to spray dry bud with sugar water -

it ruined the weed

I don't smoke the leaves myself; and that's just what happens when you dry a plant the leaves are the first to dry out. When you cure your weed in a container after drying you usually will have more moisture left in yours buds than you thought.

be carefull doing this. I used to live down in the sunshine state and i had somone pick up bag for me. this person had never really been around weed before and thought the weed was too dry. he proceeded to put an orange peel in the bag. by time he brought me the bag the next night it had fogged up the bag and mold had begin to form. yes this happened withing 24 hours or a little longer. it makes your weed smell funny(like grass) and harsh also. your better off just curing in jars like you would normaly and smoking the dry buds.

Just a thought the acid in the orange cant be good for thc

sorry dude but that humiditys far to high for drying weed ime, several strains would mold for sure on those numbers.

your humiditys good mustang so imthinking its a little warm in there? 20ish is a good dry temp but if you feel there crisping hard chuck the whole plant in a bin liner which slows the dry and sweats the inside to the out, only do this for 6 hours at a time till your happy then hang again

mustang531981----The drying time might be quickier for you if you have a more sativa strain, and the buds aren't as tight.

That should be good humidity for them. Are they very airy buds??

Either way, put them in something you can seal them up, and use something, like the orange peel, but will leave that smell to it.

Lettuce is a popular thing to use. Cotton ball with some water, all kinds of stuff can be used to freshen them back up.

Don't place whatever you use on any buds, and make sure to burp, or open and circulate the air a few times during each day.

They will mold if not watched, or if put right on the weed.

Within a day they should freshen back up.

For a piece of lettuce, just use like a 1x1 inch piece in a mason jar. Not a whole piece of lettuce to be clear.

Happy Growing

I'll smoke some leaves! Especially if they are as covered with trichs as the calyx right next to them.

I love listening to everyones harvesting advise. There are some many opinions and ways to actually make it happen. I got so lazy with my last plant that I just chopped it into pieces and stuffed it into a cardboard box. I've been cutting branches off of it for a couple months now and man does it just keep getting better.

dude that's not too dry. Take your buds down and put them in a mason jar, preferably suck out air and vacuum seal lid (theres a trick to it)

Curing brings the moisture from the inside out. It will actually seem like your buds are more moist after one day of cure. Then you leave lid off the next night and it's perfect.

That's the way I do it. I always do a bit more drying to all the buds I buy as well.

Drying Marijuana After Harvest
You probably don't want to smoke marijuana that is harsh and bad tasting. If you do not take time to dry the bud, you will not get the best possible smell and taste your crop is capable of producing.
Proper drying and curing will also ensure maximum potency of the marijuana you have grown. Marijuana is not potent just after harvest. Some of the THC is in a non-psychoactive acidic form. Drying marijuana the right way will convert the non-psychoactive acidic compounds into psychoactive THC.
The area where the drying is done should be dark. Light and high temperatures (higher than about 80 degrees) will cause THC to break down into less desirable chemicals, this will lower the potency of the finished product.
A good way to dry the crop is to hang the buds upside-down by the stem, from some string or wire. The drying marijuana must have some circulation blowing over it at all times. A gentle breeze that circulates over all the plants is necessary.
A fan or two will circulate air within the drying room. Fans will aid in drying the plants evenly, and reducing the chances of mold. If mold starts and is allowed to grow, it might ruin all of your crop. Mold looks like white fuzz and has an odor that is unpleasant.
You will have to keep the temperature and humidity within a certain range for optimal results. Conditions should remain constantly somewhere within the following ranges, temperature should be between 65-75 degrees F, relative humidity should be between 45%-55%.
At temperatures lower than 65 degrees, drying time will be lengthened. At temperatures higher than 75 degrees, the heat will cause the outer portion of the bud to dry quicker than the inner part, and the taste will suffer.
At humidity levels lower than 45%, the marijuana will dry too fast and the taste will suffer. At humidity levels higher than 55%, the marijuana will take a long time to dry, and it will be prone to mold. Keep a hygrometer and a thermometer in the drying area, close to the plants. A hygrometer will allow you to keep an eye on the relative humidity level in the room and a thermometer will display the temperature. Some hygrometers have built in thermometers so you can measure the temperature and humidity together.
Depending on the time of year and your location, a heater or an air conditioner may be necessary to adjust the temperature. To control humidity, a dehumidifier can lower humidity and a humidifier can be used to raise humidity. There are warm mist humidifiers and cool mist humidifiers.
A warm mist humidifier will raise the temperature while a cool mist humidifier will not affect the temperature. There are also humidifiers that allow you to switch between warm or cool mist. If you are going to purchase a humidifier for this purpose, take your climate into consideration and buy an appropriate humidifier.
Warm mist models will actually heat the water and release warm humidity. Cool mist water isn't cooled, it just means that water is not heated. In most cases a cool mist will work best. To be safe you can get a humidifier that lets you switch between warm and cool mist.
