it's simple math. you're at 7. so you subtract 5.7 (where you want to be) from seven and get 1.3, You need to go 1.3 lower than 5.7 (4.4) to equal it out. but do it slowly at lower ppm or you can really fry the plants.

make sense?
Thats MUCH easier than the method I was using....
I was running 6.4 water through my 7.5 PH soil. It took forever. It worked, but it took a LOT of flushing. I finally brought it down to 6.8.
That was last year though

Thanks Freak, that was a good explination. I flushed with water with a pH of about 5.2 yesterday and will be going up there today.

Would you say I should just flush with the same water or lower the pH again? My problem is even though I have a super awsome pH tester I have no TDS/EC tester so I won't be able to know if I am gonna fry my plants or not.

What I do know is that my water is soft and can be a real bitch to deal with. Sometimes when it comes out of the faucet it at times can look cloudy and you have to give it a minute before it clears up. I wish I could water with stright tap but that isn't going to be an option for me.

Good morning,

I don't know about that "Koolaid" thing, I read that as well, I believe he was being sarcastic but, he could be using "Koolaid" for the sugar content or maybe thinks it'll add a flavor.
The "Molasses" on the otherhand I know is used during flushing that is beneficial to the micro-organisms in the soil :food for them" not so much for the taste in the final product but, it could add some to the taste as the sugars in the "Molasses" will prob be absorbed by the roots. Don't qoute me, i'm still learning.

When I signed up to this forum I (in my head) took all the years of what I thought was good growing knowledge and rolled it up in a BIG ball and tossed it in the garbage can across the room like a basketball!
I am now an opened book of blank pages wanting & needing to learn... Please teach me!
All the things i've learned in the past really doesn't pretain much to growing with plants today. Like my old "Marijuana Growers Guide" by the Great Ed Rosenthul is mostly out-of-date by todays standards. The same basics still apply by growing methods have gone far beyond.

So, excuse me for my long post so early in my morning, only had a few sips of coffee so far and haven't been in my room yet to see my beautiful Ladies of the "Box"

Have a Great day & be safe

So, now everyone knows I don't check anything ph, TDS/EC

Should I buy a PH, TDS/EC meter for my future grows and if so, which brand is good, meaning reliable???

Sometimes, usually after a heavy rain my water leaves the tap filling a glass with cloudy very oxygenated seemingly, I as well let it sit for a few seconds til it clears. Never saw a prob with it though.
What causes this cloudiness??

I'll prob use the funds from the "Stimulus" money supposedly being sent out in May since I qualify for that ... we'll see if I get another "stim" payment from our President.

Thanks and have a Great day

I was told to get the Milwaukee SM101. I got mine on Ebay for about 70-75 with shipping. It is a top notch pH meter, but you might want to go for a combo so you can tell TDS/EC/pH all with one instrument.

please note that you still need to flush if your ph is way off. A ph reading that off is a sign of nute build up in the soil. Give them a good flush until the ppm's of the run off are very low. Check the ph of the run off, thengive them the dose of ph adjustment nutes. That way, you aren't just dumping more nutes into already nute saturated soil, further damaging your plant.

did that make sense?

edit: I use a Milwaukee SM802 combo meter. Works great. I replace the probe annually. You can get them on Ebay for around $140 if you look hard enough

I don't use any nutes when i flush. I don't use nutes again until they dry out after the flush.

Yeah what you said makes perfect sense to me. I however didn't have any nute buildup I don't believe (can it really build up from preferted pearlite?). I have yet to add any nutes. What I did was flushed with water at about 5.2 and checked again today and they rebounded well.

Still a ways to go but growth is now dark green and looking much better. Tomorrow I will water with pH'ed water of about 4.6 and see if it helps anymore.

And on a last point of intrest, Milwaukee makes some of the best shit I have bought. Lol I used to have a shitty Hanna pen and boy is it a great upgrade. Even if you don't have to use your pH tester often, if you are ever in a situation where you have to troubleshoot a problem that can make or break you.

I strongly suggest getting one.

as well, I'm in flush mode right now in my soil grow, have been for three weeks.. Still don't see the leaves yellowing yet, i'm gonna flush like Alleycat said mr.hyde told him.
flush several gallons thruogh until drainage then allow to sit for 30 minutes then continue flush.
I've been flushing 9 gallons of water through each of my three 3 gallon containers. Three diff plants waitin for amber couchlock, almost there.
I don't flush using nutes for some reason I just don't see how adding even 1/4 strength to water your using to rid the soil of nutes. it's prob just me!!
Thanks FS and neo

have a Great evening
