hell I still have ALOT of white pistils but my trichs are mostly amber. I think a working knowledge of you strain is very important!

If I had to go by something other than trichomes it SURE AS HELL isnt going to be pistils I look at. I would look more for swollen buds...Natural dying leaves...Not pistil colors. I get red pistils at 3 weeks flowering, and more white ones at harvest. lol
