Anyone try drying with a Refrigerator?
permalink

Hey everyone. Having some drying problems. My current drying area is too warm and too low on humidity. I'm getting really dry bud.

I thought it might be possible to dry in one of those compact fridges. Has anyone done this or have any threads on this subject?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Dunno if this is possible for you but what about hanging in a cardboard box and putting it outside in your garden for a few hours ach day, (cover the box in curtain netting so no creepys get in.

This is a method im gonna use daytime to dry mine, as my house is too hot also.
But obviously its only any goosd if you aint got close neighbours.

Good luck dude

I dont see why it wouldn't be possible to dry in a fridge but you probably would need a super clean one to keep flavors from entering your buds.
Since they are not vented you would also need something to absorb the moisture in the air or you might mold.

You've got me very interested though, I'm gunna do a bit of reading on the subject.

Maybe by drying and curing in the cold it will change some characteristics of the final product compared to a regular warm dry/cure?

And fridges naturally take humidity out of the air so they are dry too. Try putting your buds into jars before they get too dry then burp them daily for a few weeks. Works for me and my area is arid.

i second that.
if left hanging on the lines, my stuff would be dry in a week-week& 1/2.
instead, when the budleaves have gotten crispy, but the stems are just moist enough not to snap, i put them in paper bags and close, opening once a day for 10-15 min.
in about 1.5-2 more weeks, it's usually ready to go into buckets for curing.

peace-

What about long term storage in glass jars stored inside one of those mini fridges after it's pretty much cured? I have a harsh environment where im at as well and there isnt anywhere in my house with the exception of a few months in winter where my bud will be subjected to temperature spikes storeing around the house in the coolest of areas.

I already have several small jars of bud in one of my refridgerators now that just finished cureing and I dont think ill get around to it any time soon. I have also been entertaining the idea of purchasing a mini fridge I can set at a high temp and just pile all my jars inside, for several years if need be.

I just recently found two jars of bud I had hidden to well in the fall off 2007. It was very browned over and was only suitable to make Kief out of. Very dry and beyond the point of salvage.

Im thinking if I keep all my bud in a hidden small fridge rather than freezing the bud should keep for a couple of years with know loss of potency or flavor. So im convinced that within a short period following a cure if you dont have buyers lined up and your preparing to store your goodies for along time 24+ months, you will need to consider refidgeration or freezing. I think a fridge at a 40-45 F setting should protect your bud in glass jars just fine for a few years im hoping.

I wish to hear if this is the best way to store excess weed you wont be getting around to any time soon? If I lived up north somewhere im sure I could find a cool year round spot to store my stash in pristine condition but since I live in a desert im looking for answers myself.

I saved a couple of buds from that plant that I dont envision ever smoking. Burned out smoking her early on and created a ton of bubble hash with that one. Even that doesnt get smoked that often with all the other offerings from this summer.

I just hope in two years from now my most recent crop which is worth preserving because the bud is much more potent than that monster plant I grew back in 2007. This is why I picked up a mini-fridge the other day. I mishandled some of that bud from 2007 and didnt store the jars in the most ideal of places and alot of it browned over in the jars.

This time whatever still is around in my combined fridg's I can transfer to a chest freezer at the six month mark. Im very curious if I can keep some weed for 3-4 years in pristine condition.
