Harvesting an indoor pure sativa?
permalink

Hi everyone,

OK, so this isn't the normal can it be done, yadda-yadda thread. My first grow (took place last year) was done with pure sativas from bag seed. I harvested early at 9 weeks due to security reasons, and while I was pleased with it being my first grow and having a nice amount of herb (4.5 oz) I know that I chopped way too early by looking at the trichs. Mostly clear, few cloudy, much less amber.

This year I am on grow #2! I am using the same batch of seeds from my last grow, so I know that they are going to be pure sativas. I believe I can tell now even just looking at the leaves. I am barely past my first week of flowering, but I have a question that puzzles me. I understand that most of the input everyone can give me is going to be rough estimates, because hell, MJ always grows on her own time.

My main question is when you do the 2 week flush before harvest how many trichs do you notice change to cloudy? This is a question for pure sativas, so I know that this is hard to truly answer, and with it being indoor a full perfect harvest is highly unlikely. I am curious so I can gauge when I am going to chop, as I have my mind set on a 12-14 week flower schedule.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

IMHO I think you will get lots of answers. Lots of them are really good. I am go'n for 50% ambers at this time, I flush when about 25% are amber to get 50%, how ever that depends on the strain and how the plant looks as well. I want to try for some near 100%.

Sure the sativas can respond differently. Just like a clone can be different than the parent..etc etc. One main reason that I think that each plant ends up different is due to feeding, lighting, and the basic enviorment it is put in. Even if you can get the exact same genetics from a clone it is almost impossibe to duplicate what the plant is subjected to tought out its life.

I believe that all MJ can be grown indoors. Most do better out doors, but not always (same as what I was conveying about each plant being different).

...lol so I think your asking about when to harvest. Well I mainly go by Trichome color...and breeder recommended flowering time. I am hope'n to push a week or 2 later than reccomended times in the future.

I did a similar thing my first indoor grow. Bag seeds, unknown species, ended up with two sativas. One developed crowded roots and I had to bring down after 9 weeks. I let the second one go to maturity. It was a much longer wait than I planned for. Five months from planting the seed, 15 1/2 weeks of flowering. I never topped it, should have - it grew into an eight foot monster, tied every which way. It did yield 19.2 ozs, but I don't want to go through that again. It was told to me, they were correct, and I'll pass it on as something to think about for the next grow - quality genetics, hybrid strains engineered for indoor growth, eight weeks to flower, high yield, high potency.
